Buenos Aires, Argentina (SportsNetwork.com) - Ricardo Centurions goal in the 49th minute was enough to hand Racing its first league title in 13 years as the club secured a 1-0 win over Godoy Cruz on Sunday. Racing entered the final day of the campaign with a two-point lead on River Plate, knowing that a win over Godoy would be enough to allow the club to lift its first league title since the 2001 Apertura. A scoreless first half made things a bit nervy for Racing, but Centurion settled those anxieties in the 49th minute when he arrived at the back post to get on the other end of a right-wing cross from Gaston Diaz, allowing him to send a header past Godoy goalkeeper Sebastian Moyano. The goal was enough as Racings defense made the lead stand up, allowing the team to claim the title after ending the season on a six-game winning streak to overtake the likes of River Plate, Lanus and Boca Juniors over the final two months of the campaign. River Plate took part in the other match on Sunday and needed Racing to drop points to have a chance at winning the league. Racings win eliminated any chance for River, which was awarded a 1-0 win over Quilmes after the game was suspended due to crowd trouble at Quilmes home stadium.
