MINSK, Belarus -- When Alex Burrows was on the ice in pain following a knee-on-knee hit from Italys Joachim Ramoser, it didnt look good. When he needed to lean on Brayden Schenn and Nathan MacKinnon to get off the ice, it was all too easy to fear the worst. A year after Team Canada lost Eric Staal to a sprained medial collateral ligament at the world hockey championship, it was something of a relief that Burrows did not suffer a knee injury. In announcing a one-game suspension for Ramoser, the International Ice Hockey Federation revealed the Canadian medical staffs diagnosis of a charley horse. Coach Dave Tippett said Saturday that Burrows was a game-time decision for Sundays showdown with Sweden. "A little better today," Tippett said after an optional practice at Chizhovka-Arena. "(Burrows) took steps forwards overnight, and doctors and trainers will work on him today and hopefully we can get him close tomorrow." Asked if he was confident the Vancouver Canucks forward would be able to play, Tippett responded: "Well see. Lets see where it is tomorrow, but certainly better than last night." Burrows did not return after the scary collision with 56 seconds left in the first period that Tippett and Italian coach Tom Pokel agreed was not intentional. The IIHF disciplinary panel agreed but added that Ramoser "endangered the safety of Burrows." "He did initiate contact illegally with his knee and must take responsibility for causing the injury to Burrows," the IIHF said in a statement. Told of Ramosers suspension Saturday, Tippett called it a tough play. "Its a knee-to-knee kind of hit," he said. "I dont think the kid meant to do it. Just when you miss by a little bit, those things happen." Burrows did not skate Saturday, but he was far from alone. Only four skaters -- defenceman Morgan Rielly and forwards Jonathan Huberdeau, Mark Scheifele and Sean Monahan -- took the ice along with goaltenders Ben Scrivens, James Reimer and Justin Peters. It was not clear which goaltender would start against Sweden in Canadas second-to-last preliminary game that very likely will determine first place in Group A. Reimer has a 2.27 goals-against average and .918 save percentage in two starts, while Scrivens has a 1.00 and .963. Sweden is Canadas biggest test before the quarter-final. Two players are back from the silver-medal-winning Sochi Olympic team -- forwards Gustav Nyquist of the Detroit Red Wings and Jimmie Ericsson. Goaltender Anders Nilsson of the New York Islanders has been phenomenal for Sweden, which has gotten seven points from former NHL forward Joakim Lindstrom. "Obviously were expecting a high-paced game, and theyve got some good, skilled players," said Cody Hodgson, who leads Canada with seven points and is tied for the tournament lead with six goals. Hodgson is thriving in part because hes healthy, and while some teammates are banged-up, Tippett thinks theyll be OK. Defenceman Braydon Coburn lost a few teeth in Fridays victory over Italy, and Troy Brouwer and Kevin Bieska also had mouth injuries. Defenceman Jason Garrison, who missed the game against Italy with illness, was doing better Saturday, according to Tippett. The flu bug has gone through some other teams in Minsk, but beyond Garrison it hadnt done the same to Canada. "Knock on wood it seems to be all right today," Tippett said. Even more fortunate for Canada is that Burrows seems to be OK. "It was a tough-looking hit, but hes been around a while," Tippett said. "He knows when he thinks he can get up and moving, and it was good to see him today a lot better than last night." Cheap Pacers Jerseys . DOHA, Qatar -- Rafael Nadal reached the final of the Qatar Open on Friday by coming from behind to beat German qualifier Peter Gojowczyk 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Nadal is looking for his first title in Doha and will face Gael Monfils of France, who only needed 55 minutes to dispatch Florian Mayer of Germany 6-3, 6-2 in the other semifinal. "Im in the final," Nadal said. "That (will) probably give me a little bit more confidence, a little bit more rhythm." Nadal lost the first three games against the 162nd-ranked Gojowczyk but came back to level the first set before losing serve again in the 10th game. The top-ranked Spaniard then raced to a 4-1 lead in the second and broke Gojowczyks in the third game of the decider after two forehand errors by the German. "Well see if I am able to make (changes) tomorrow to play a little bit better," Nadal said. The 31st-ranked Monfils hasnt dropped a set all week but has only won twice against Nadal in 10 previous meetings. However, both those victories came here in Doha -- in the 2009 quarterfinals and the 2012 semifinals. This will be Monfils third appearance in the Doha final -- he lost to Roger Federer in 2006 and to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 2012. "It means a lot to be in the final again," Monfils said. "I have one match to go. Ill be ready for it." Gojowczyk had only won one career tour-level match -- at the 2013 U.S. Open -- before this tournament, but still managed to bother Nadal in the first set. Nadals forehand improved in the second, however, and his opponent couldnt keep up after that. "I tried to change a little bit and tried to be positive for the rest of the match, because the tennis was not there today," Nadal said of his mindset after losing the first set. "Even if he was playing great, when the opponent is playing too comfortable (it) is because Im doing something bad. ... Without playing my best, I was able to find solution." Damon Severson Jersey . Tallahassee, FL - Jameis Winston accounted for two touchdowns and No. 2 Florida State extended its winning streak to 25 games with a 34-20 victory over Virginia on Saturday. Winston overcame two early interceptions and completed 22-of-35 passes for 261 yards and a touchdown, while also adding a score on the ground for the Seminoles (9-0, 6-0 ACC), who have won 21 consecutive games against conference foes. Rashad Greene caught 13 passes for 136 yards and a score, and Karlos Williams rushed for 70 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. Greyson Lambert threw for 220 yards and three touchdowns with an interception on 20-of-35 efficiency, while Canaan Severin, Darius Jennings and Andre Levrone each hauled in a TD pass for the Cavaliers (4-6, 2-4), who lost their fourth straight game. Losing four in a row, its frustrating, Severin said. We can still be bowl eligible, so weve still got to just keep playing. Florida State pulled away with 21 straight points in the second quarter. Lamberts pass to the left sideline was intercepted by Terrance Smith, who took the ball to the Cavaliers 3. Williams extended the ball into the end zone for a 14-7 lead less than a minute into the second quarter. After Lambert turned the ball over, Florida State needed just one play to find the end zone again as Winston stood tall in the pocket a delivered a 22-strike to Greene for a 21-13 lead just 12 seconds later. The Seminoles chewed up 6:48 with a 15-play, 84-yard trek that was capped when Winston jumped to fake a pass before diving into the end zone for a 4-yard score 4:43 before halftime. Dalvin Cook fumbled the ball and Virginia took over at Florida States 22. On the very next play, Lambert lofted a pass to Severin for a 22-yard score to get to make it a 28-20 game seven minutes into the third. Roberto Aguayo capped a 9-play, 60-yard Florida State drive by splitting the uprights from 43 yards out for a 31-20 lead. Winston completed a 21-yard pass to Williams to move the Seminoles into Virginia territory, but the drive stalled at the 23-yard line and Aguayo kicked a 40-yard field goal with 16 seconds left in the third. On 4th-and-1 at Florida States 32, Kevin Parks ran four yards for a Virginia first down. After Lambert was sacked for a 9-yard loss, he completed a 26-yard pass to Zachary Swanson two plays later to the Seminoles 15. The Cavaliers turned the ball over on downs after Jennings hauled in a pass for a 2-yard loss to seal the outcome with 5:47 to play. Were still continuing to get better every week in certain things, and weve got to keep growing, FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher said. After Florida State punted on its initial drive, David Marrs fumbled the ball on Virginias first play and Mario Edwards Jr. recovered it at the Cavaliers 26. Winston ran 20 yards and Williams plunged in from two yards out for a 7-0 lead. Maurice Candy picked off Winstons pass over the middle to give the Cavaliers the ball at their 47-yard line. Virginia moved to Florida States 18 after a defensive pass interference penalty and Lambert connected with Levrone for a 16-yard score two plays later for a tie game with 4:20 left in the first. Winston threw his second interception of the first quarter after his pass was tipped up into the air and Eli Harold caught at Florida States 45. Lambert completed a 13-yard pass to Doni Dowling, Khalek Shepherd ran 15 yards for a first down and hit a diving Jennings in the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown. Ian Frye, however, missed the extra point. Game Notes Florida State became the 25th team in college football history to win 25 straight games ... LOUIS -- When Cardinals manager Mike Matheny came to the mound in the seventh inning, Adam Wainwright focused on recording another out. Matheny left his ace in for one more hitter with two on and Wainwright responded with one more big pitch, and then left the mound with a whoop in a 5-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday night. "That was a couple weeks of frustration built up, just not making a pitch when I needed to," Wainwright said. "He just came out and gave me a little pep talk. "Hes a motivational speaker guy, hes very good at that." Yoenis Cespedes took a third strike on a full-count curveball and catcher Tony Cruz sprinted to the dugout before home plate umpire Gary Cederstrom raised his right arm. "Hes one of the top pitchers and when they get into trouble they find ways to get out of it," Boston second baseman Dustin Pedroia said. "Thats what he did. Thats why hes one of the best." Wainwright recovered from a shaky start to earn his 14th win, tying for the major league lead, and rookie Kolten Wong homered twice. "Hes got really impressive bat speed, always has," Matheny said of Wong. "You dont have to cheat. You just take the head of the bat to the ball and watch it jump." Jhonny Peraltas two-run double keyed a three-run first off Brandon Workman and Wong had his first multihomer game. The Cardinals took two of three from their stripped-down opponents, who beat them in the World Series last fall but are in last place in the AL East. "That first inning is kind of notorious in his career," Red Sox manager John Farrell said of Workman. Troy Tulowitzki just hopes no one will hold any grudges when he picks the National League participants for the Home Run Derby at the All-Star Game. The Colorado Rockies shortstop will serve as captain of the NL side and select the four other members for the derby. Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays is in charge of the American League. "To be the captain, I dont know if thats something Im looking forward to because of how tough the decisions are going to be," Tulowitzki said Monday before the Rockies played the St. Louis Cardinals. "You cant put everybody that wants to participate on your team. So with that, you open yourself up. "But, at the same time, Im honoured to be the National League captain." The event will be held July 14 at Target Field, the night before the showcase game in Minneapolis. Bautista is a two-time major league home run champion. Tulowitzki has hit at least 25 homers in three of the past four seasons. Although the honour was just recently bestowed on Tulowitzki, hes already mulling over his options. Giancarlo Stanton of Miami is high on his list, especially since he leads the league in homers with 20. Yasiel Puig of the Los Angeles Dodgers is also a consideration. Tulowitzki may even select teammate Justin Morneau, especially since the first baseman came up in the Twins organization and it would be a homecoming. "That would be neat for him," said Tulowitzki, who has 18 homers this season. "Obviously, hes a guy I have a relationship with." Given Tulowitzkis relationship with St. Louis outfielder Matt Holliday, he could be a pick, too. Tulowitzki spent some time catching up with his former teammate before Mondays game. Did Holliday lobby to be included? "I dont think so," Tulowitzki said, smiling. "Holliday is just a good friend of mine, someone that I have a great deal of respect for. "If he wanted to participate, hed definitely be someone on the list, but he wasnt (lobbying)." Tulowitzki is hoping players around the NL reach out to him. Rockies pitcher Brett Anderson, whos currently on the disabled list, wrote on his Twitter account: "Fingers crossed Tulo picks me for the home run derby!" Hes listening -- and doesnt want to hear excuses about how the derby may mess up a batters stroke. "You take a look during (batting practice), sometimes Ill go out there and try to hit a home run on every single pitch," Tulowitzki explained. "Its no different from being in the Home Run Derby. "Those are my thoughts. I dont really want to entertain that thought, either. You get back on track. And if youre not doing good, you put some (work in the cage). Its not because of a Home Run Derby." Benn also added an assist, while Horcoff and Erik Cole notched the other regulation goals. I thought the leaders of the team took the bulls by the horns, Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. Anders Lindback stopped 9-of-10 shots to get the win in relief of Kari Lehtonen, who allowed four goals on 19 shots before getting pulled halfway through the second period. HOUSTON -- When Chandler Parsons started the season 0 for 8 on 3-pointers, the Houston Rockets were confident that they would start falling for him eventually. Pretty soon he started hitting a few, and on Friday night he was a career-best 6 of 6 from behind the arc. Parsons scored 21 points and the Rockets picked up their fourth straight win, rolling to an easy 114-95 victory over the Brooklyn Nets. "I started the season shooting really poorly," Parsons said. "Its all about staying confident and sticking with it and just continuing to put in the work in the gym. Ive worked too hard for it not to start paying off." The Rockets led by 26 points at halftime and Brooklyn coach Jason Kidd benched all his starters except Brook Lopez for the entire second half. "We had to go with the guys who were going to play hard," Kidd said. "Those were the guys, and I played them the whole second half." Houston made a season-high 19 3-pointers, led by the perfect night by Parsons, who scored all his points in the first three quarters. "If you get ball movement that we want and body movement that we want, we should be able to get open 3s," coach Kevin McHale said. "We are one of the teams that looks for it and shoots a lot of them." James Harden scored nine points with seven assists for the Rockets in his return after missing three games with a sore left foot. He played almost 26 minutes. Lopez was also back after sitting out the last six games with a sprained left ankle. He started in place of Kevin Garnett and scored 16 points in about 21 minutes. "The last three teams have great 3-point shooting teams and we gave them easy looks from that distance," Lopez said, adding that he felt great after the game. Mason Plumlee and Tyshawn Taylor each scored 16 points for the Nets, who have dropped 10 of their last 12. Taylors 16 points were a career high and he also had 12 assists. Kidd said he thinks his starters werent playing hard because they were fatigued before this trip after playing in Toronto on Tuesday before a home game against the Lakers on Wednesday. "Thats a problem," he said. "We have to address that ... weve got to figure out what the problem is with our starting group." Omri Casspi scored 16, Francisco Garcia had 15 and Dwight Howard added 12 points and seven rebounds. Brooklyn shot just 33 per cent overall in the first half and only 10 per cent from 3-point range. Brooklyns backups didnt fare any better. Houston used an 8-2 run in the third quarter to make its lead 80-48. Parsons had a 3-pointer during the run and Terrence Jones also scored three points. The Rockets led by 16 with about five minutes left in the second quarter before using a 16-6 spurt to push the lead to 66-40 at halftime. The Nets missed seven shots, had two turnovers and allowed the Rockets to have easy look after easy look as they built the lead. The Rockets led 33-17 at the end of the first quarter. Houston scored the games first six points and was up by four before using a 13-0 run to extend the lead to 25-8 with about three minutes left in the first quarter. Howard missed a hook shot at the end of that run before Casspi grabbed the rebound and tossed a no-look, backward pass to Garcia. His 3-point attempt bounced off the rim but Howard was there to tip it in. Harden showed that he was feeling good early when he juked Joe Johnson off the dribble at the top of the key, drawing an ooh from the crowd, and dashed into the lane for a wide-open layup. He missed it, but Howard was there to grab the rebound and finish with a dunk. NOTES: Kidd said he was just "trying to win" when he intentionally spilled a drink on the court, a stunt that cost him $50,000. "Its about trying to win and those guys in that locker room, and I tried to put those guys in a position to get a basket, a good look and we did," he said. ... JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- Oscar Pistorius was in an altercation at an upmarket nightclub over the weekend, his family said Tuesday. Pistorius went with a cousin to a trendy Johannesburg nightclub on Saturday, where he was accosted by a man who aggressively questioned him about his murder trial, his family confirmed. The man gave a different version, saying the double-amputee runner was drunk, insulted his friends and the family of President Jacob Zuma and poked him in the chest, according to Johannesburgs Star newspaper. Regardless of who started the argument, the weekend episode focuses fresh attention on the disputed character of Pistorius, a globally recognized athlete who is on trial for murder after he fatally shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp through a closed toilet door on Feb. 14, 2013. Defence lawyers describe Pistorius, currently free on bail, as a vulnerable figure with a disability who pulled the trigger in a tragic case of mistaken identity, but prosecutors portray him as a gun-obsessed hothead who shot Steenkamp after the couple quarreled. The trial is on a break ahead of closing arguments on Aug. 7-8, sparing Pistorius the near-daily trip to the Pretoria courthouse, where he has sometimes wept and wailed in apparent distress during testimony. The nightclub argument has put him back on the front pages of South Africas press, which has also highlighted a number of quotations about suffering and religious faith that appeared on his Twitter account in the hours that followed. The altercation in the nightspot cannot be a factor in Pistorius trial, said a legal analyst who has closely followed proceedings. "It would not be appropriate to mention it in closing arguments as it would constitute hearsay as no previous witness has entered evidence of it on the trial record," Kelly Phelps, a senior lecturer in the public law department at the University of Cape Town, wrote in an email to The Associated Press. "If it had occurred earlier in proceedings the gentleman concerned could have been called as a witness or Mr. Pistorius could have been questioned on the reports. Even then it would have very little value. The most important thing the court needs to determine is what Pistorius was thinking and how he was acting on the night in question," wrote Phelps, referring to the night on which Pistorius killed Steenkamp. Pistorius had been barred from consuming alcohol under early bail conditions, but the ban was rescinded after the defence appealed. He was seated in a quiet booth in the VIP section of the nightclub before he was approached, said Anneliese Burgess, a spokeswoman for the Pistorius family. "The individual, according to my client, started to aggressively interrogate him on matters relating to the trial. An argument ensued during which my client asked to be left alone," she said in a statement. "Osccar soon thereafter left the club with his cousin.dddddddddddd My client regrets the decision to go to a public space and thereby inviting unwelcome attention." The man who argued with Pistorius is Jared Mortimer, according to Johannesburgs Star newspaper and The Juice, a South African celebrity news website, which quoted Mortimer as saying the Paralympic athlete started the confrontation. Pistorius said Mortimers friends had betrayed him in the murder trial, The Star quoted Mortimer as saying in an apparent reference to evidence presented in court. The athlete also said he had information that could get those friends into trouble, but he would not use it, according to Mortimer. "He was drunk, but not bad. We were drinking tequila and I still remember putting down my drink and thinking I couldnt drink it while my friends were being spoken of like that," The Star quoted Mortimer as saying. Pistorius also insulted the family of the South African president, Jacob Zuma, upsetting Mortimer, who is a friend of a member of Zumas family, according to the newspaper. "He was poking me and saying that I would never get the better of him," the newspaper quoted Mortimer as saying. "He was close to my face and at that point I pushed him to get him away from me. A chair was behind his legs and he fell to the ground." The altercation happened Saturday night in Sandton, an upscale area in Johannesburg, according to South African media. A woman who answered the telephone at The VIP Room, the club where the incident occurred, said club owner Chris Coutroulis was "overseas" and was awaiting reports from club staff who witnessed the altercation. The club website says it caters to the "nouveau riche" and invites guests to "slip on your diamante dancing shoes or designer suit and dance the night away at the most ostentatious venue in Joburg." On Monday, several quotations appeared on Pistorius Twitter account. They included the biblical verse "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted," as well as a prayer, "Lord, today I ask that you bathe those who live in pain in the river of your healing. Amen." Another tweet shows photos of Pistorius with disabled and other children and a caption about "the ability to make a difference in someones life." Burgess, the Pistorius family spokeswoman, said she was not immediately able to confirm the authenticity of the tweets. He last tweeted on Feb. 14, the first anniversary of Steenkamps death. Pistorius, who says he killed Steenkamp after thinking an intruder was about to attack him, faces 25 years to life in prison if found guilty of premeditated murder. He could also be sentenced to a shorter prison term if convicted of murder without premeditation or negligent killing. Additionally, he faces separate gun-related charges. cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Nobody had beaten the Anaheim Ducks at home all season long, and they had another late lead until Jaromir Jagr got the New Jersey Devils to overtime. From there, the Ducks beat themselves. Jagr scored the tying goal with 1:01 left in regulation, and the Devils ended Anaheims eight-game home winning streak with a 4-3 victory on Wednesday night. Travis Zajac got credit for the winning goal at 1:58 of overtime, but the Ducks put it in their own net -- a fitting finish to what coach Bruce Boudreau saw as a tentative, reactionary effort. The Devils felt they got the reward they deserved for a gritty finish in the opener of a three-game California trip. "We knew we had to play better to give ourselves a chance, so we had to come out strong in the third period," Zajac said. "We started to win some forecheck battles and stuck with it right to the end. We got rewarded late in the game on Jagrs goal. It was kind of a lucky one there." After Jagr converted Patrik Elias pass from behind the net, with Martin Brodeur pulled for an extra attacker, New Jersey got even more luck on the winner. Ben Lovejoy hit teammate Corey Perry with the puck while attempting to clear the crease, and it caromed past Jonas Hiller to end the longest season-opening home winning streak in Anaheim history. "Thats obviously an incredibly unfortunate ending," Lovejoy said. "Thats a game we need. Were an incredibly desperate team, even though were still all right in the standings." With four wins in five games capped by this impressive comeback, the Devils are starting to feel better about their 8-8-5 spot in the standings. Moments after Brodeur made an exceptional save on Mathieu Perreaults attempt at an overtime goal, the Devils were rewarded with a gift from Lovejoy and Perry. "It was nice to pull it off because we worked very hard and we battled," said Brodeur, who stopped 22 shots. "When you win, you always look at these kinds of saves. Sometimes the games are ugly, and if you make one save like that, it makes the difference." Elias had three assists, and Marek Zidlicky and Eric Gelinas scored power-play goals in the first period after an incorrect high-sticking double minor call against Teemu Selanne. "I think the schedule worked to our advantage tonight," said Jagr, who scored his 689th NHL goal. "They had to travel last night, and we had one extra day of rest here. Maybe in the third period it showed. But theyre one of the best teams in the league -- maybe the best team -- so thats a huge two points for us." Ryan Getzlaf scored the tiebreaking power-play goal, and Nick Bonino had a goal and an assist for the NHL-leading Ducks, who have lost five straight. Anaheim was the leagues only remaining unbeaten home team, but the Ducks are in a skid after playing a league-high 24 games this season. Matt Beleskey also scored for the Ducks, still on top of the overall NHL standings despite going 0-3-2 in their last five. Hiller made 21 saves in just his second start in seven games. Boudreau bemoaned his clubs soft third-period effort, a creeping problem in recent days. "Thats all I talked about (in) the previous two games," Boudreau said. "We played not to lose in the third period. You cant play the game in your own zone and expect to win. ... I dont even call it a mistake (on the final goal). It was an accident. Thats the way the game was going. We missed two open nets. You knew something bad was going to happen." Dustin Penner had two assists for the Ducks, who stumbled home to friendly Honda Center after a winless four-game East Coast road trip. Anaheim also lost defenceman Francois Beauchemin in the second period to an upper-body injury. "We need to respond to this," Lovejoy said. "Were not playing great hockey right now. We want to be an elite team in this league, and were not playing like it." Until the big finish, New Jersey got all of its offence on a break from a blown call. Devils defenceman Andy Greene was left with a bloody mouth after a high-stick to the face, and Selanne was whistled for a double minor -- but a video replay clearly showed Zidlicky hit his teammate in the face while tussling with Perreault. Selannes stick was on the ice. Bonino tied it with his career-best sixth goal, and Getzlaf put the Ducks ahead with a vicious slap shot for the 12th goal of his stellar season. Mike Trout, Pujols and Raul Ibanez hit consecutive home runs off Colon in the first inning and the Angels routed the New York Mets 14-2. "Anytime you can hit three home runs in a row, thats pretty special. Ive been through that before in my career," Pujols said. "Everybody knows what Bartolo is going to do -- 95 per cent of his pitches are fastballs and he pounds the strike zone." Hank Conger also went deep against Colon, who won the AL Cy Young Award in 2005 with the Angels. Over the previous four seasons, he was 6-1 with a 1.75 ERA in nine starts against the Angels. "Hes had our number, but today wasnt his day," Pujols said. "Hes a guy whos aggressive in the strike zone and we executed our game plan pretty well. If you look at last year, it seemed like every time we faced him he pretty much pitched seven or eight strong innings. So we wanted to get the jump on him early." The Angels also hit a pair of doubles in the first inning against Colon (1-2). Colon gave up nine runs and 11 hits in five innings, allowing at least one hit to every batter in the Angels starting lineup after pitching seven scoreless innings last Tuesday night in Atlanta. "At that moment, youre not thinking: Why is this happening? Its just part of the game," Colon said through a translator. "Everything felt all right. They just felt a little bit better than me." The four homers and nine earned runs against the 40-year-old Colon equaled a career worst in both categories. "Even though Bartolos had our number, it seems like all the runs we scored off him today were the ones weve needed the last two years off of him," Angels pitcher C.J. Wilson said. "Hes absolutely dominated us, and today was a complete aberration. Ive never seen him get hit like that before in person." Wilson (2-1) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings, striking out nine and walking three. Mets third baseman David Wright and secoond baseman Daniel Murphy were ejected in the top of the seventh by plate umpire Toby Basner.dddddddddddd Wright and Murphy were called out on strikes earlier in the game. Both took exception after Basner called out Travis dArnaud at-bat. It was the fourth career ejection for Wright and the first for Murphy. "Im not going to comment on the umpires. Im not going to get into any more trouble than Im already in. Ive said my peace down on the field and Im just going to leave it at that," Wright said. "We have each others backs. And when something happens to one of us, it happens to all of us. There were some disagreements. Its frustrating," he said. Wilson got seven of his strikeouts on called strikes. "You cant really get a scouting report on the umpires and try to change too much with that. You have to pitch to the hitters," Wilson said. "But it wasnt like the guy had some crazy strike zone. Its just that they were up there looking for pitches that I wasnt throwing, which is why they took the strike three calls." During the singing "God Bless America" in the seventh-inning stretch, Mets manager Terry Collins stood next to Basner at home plate. The two could be seen chatting. The Angels came out swinging and got all three of their homers in a span of seven pitches. Trout drove his fourth of the season into the centre field trees with one out and Pujols hit his third into the left field bullpen. Ibanez, who hit a tying, three-run shot off closer Jose Valverde in the ninth inning Saturday night for his 2,000th career hit, connected against Colon before the Angels added another run on doubles by Kole Calhoun and Ian Stewart. Stewart later homered. NOTES: The Angels hit three straight homers for the first time since July 27, 2009, when Juan Rivera, Kendrys Morales and Mike Napoli did it. ... ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Joe Maddons voice cracked with emotion. The Tampa Bay Rays are mired in the second-longest skid in the major leagues this season, yet they suffered a much greater loss with the death of club senior adviser Don Zimmer. "We lost a good buddy tonight," Maddon, fighting back tears, said Wednesday following Tampa Bays ninth consecutive defeat, 5-4 to the Miami Marlins. "Im going to miss his advice ... his feistiness and fire. He was about winning, doing whatever it takes to win." Donovan Solano hit a three-run homer off David Price and closer Steve Cishek escaped a ninth-inning jam the help the Marlins hold on for their third straight win in a four-game home-and-home series between the intrastate rivals. Tampa Bays losing streak is the teams longest in nearly five years and is becoming more frustrating by the day. The Rays hit into three double plays for the second straight night, are 0-for-their-last 31 with runners in scoring position and will match the longest skid in the majors this season if they drop Thursdays series finale at Tropicana Field. Boston dropped 10 straight from May 15 to 25, with Tampa Bay handing them the last three losses in the streak. The Rays havent won since. But that wasnt the focal point in a sombre clubhouse following the game. Maddon said he learned of Zimmers death during the third inning and informed his coaches, but not the players. Word gradually spread through the dugout, where third-base coach Tom Foley was spotted weeping before slipping into Zimmers No. 66 jersey and wearing it for the remainder of the game in memory of the former player, coach and manager, whose career in baseball spanned more than 60 years. "The organization wanted to do it and it fell on me," Foley said. "Major League Baseball decided to have one of the coaches wear it. I was honoured to do it." Star third baseman Evan Longoria said Zimmer will be missed on and off the field. "Zim was a great man, and there are no words to explain what he brought to us and what he meant to me. Its just been a rough go for us, and this kind of is the icing on the cake, so to speak," Longoria said. "I know that he would want us to continue on and just honour him by doing all the things that he preached to us, playing the game the right way and playing the game hard. Going out there on a daily basis and really caring." Casey McGehee had an RBI single for the Marlins, who won 1-0 on Tuesday on a bases-loaded walk. The sputtering Rays, coming off an 0-8 trip that was the worst in team history, tumbled 14 games under .500 at 23-37 -- the second-worst record in baseball. The last time they were this far below the break-even point was the end of 2007, the final season they were called the Devil Rays. The team has made the playoffs as the Rays four of the past six seasons, but are in the midst of a horrendous offensive slump thats seen them bat .217 on the trip to Toronto, Boston and Miami and score 21 runs during their longest skid since dropping 11 straight in September 2009. Tom Koehler (5-5) pitched five innings for the Marlins, allowing three first-inning runs on Ben Zobrists two-run homer and a solo shot by Evan Longoria. Bryan Morris and Mike Dunn shut down the Rays over the next three innings, and Cishek earned his 13th save in 14 opportunities. The Rays loaded the bases with no outs in the ninth on an error, a high-bouncing bloop double and a walk, but only scored once. Cishek walked Longoria intentionally to reload the bases with two outs, then got James Loney to pop out to end the game. "It got a little hairy there at the end. Ive seen that happen here, at this place, the high choppers and the bloops," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "Exactly how that ninth inning happened, Ive seen that a lot here," Redmond added. "But fortunately, Shek kept it together and was able to pitch through it, and got a couple big outs and locked down a win." Price (4-5) allowed five runs -- one earned -- and nine hits in 7 1-3 innings. He struck out 11 and walked none, but paid for Longorias third-inning error and gave up Solanos first home run of the season. After being limited to two runs over the last four games of their woeful trip, the first three batters scored against Koehler, who walked David DeJesus before giving up home runs to Zobrist and Longoria, who has just one other extra-base hit in his past 23 games. The Marlins rebounded with four unearned runs in the third, the first scoring when Longoria failed to hold onto the ball after fielding a grounder at third base and applying a tag on a sliding Marcell Ozuna for what should have been the final out of the inning. The miscue left Miami with runners at first and third. Solano hit his homer to left field on the next pitch for a 5-3 lead. NOTES: Tampa Bay OF Wil Myers, who will be in a cast for five to six weeks due to a stress fracture in his right wrist, is hopeful that the time off will also help a sore left wrist that he hurt early in the season. ... Schwartzel finished 72 holes at 17-under 271 for his ninth European Tour victory and third at this event, having secured his maiden win here in 2005. "Its always nice to get a win and get some confidence up," said the 29-year- old Schwartzel. Richard Finch, playing on a sponsors invite after failing to retain his card at the end of the 2013 season, shot a 70 at Leopard Creek Country Club and ended alone in second place at 13-under 275. Simon Dyson (67), Ross Fisher (69) and Romain Wattel (71) shared third place at 10-under, one shot ahead of Soren Hansen, who carded a 71 and took solo sixth at minus-9. Magnus A. Carlsson (66) and Simon Wakefield (68) tied for seventh at 8-under, while Danny Willett (69) and Warren Abery (68) shared ninth at 7-under. Last week, Schwartzel coughed up the lead during the final round of the South African Open Championship, stumbling to a triple bogey and a double bogey en route to a tie for fourth place. Such was not the case on Sunday, although Finch managed to threaten early, as the Englishman erased Schwartzels overnight lead with birdies at Nos. 1 and 3. After four straight pars to open, Schwartzel awoke with a deft tee shot to tap-in range at the par-3 fifth, which he converted for birdie and a 1-stroke lead. Thatt margin held at the turn, with the duo matching birdies at the sixth and eighth, where Schwartzel holed from 20 feet.dddddddddddd Finch failed to keep pace during the inward stretch, however, as he bogeyed the 11th and fell behind by a pair after an errant drive led to a penalty drop. Schwartzel pushed his advantage to three shots with a birdie from eight feet at the 13th and the tournament was all but decided at the next, where Finchs approach from a fairway bunker hit rocks on the edge of the water and landed in a bush, leading to a double-bogey 6. Schwartzel made par there, extending his lead to five strokes, and although Finch birdied the 15th, the South African cruised home, parring out to cap his bogey-free victory lap. "He got off to a fantastic start and mine was a little shaky," Schwartzel said of his playing partner Finch. OTTAWA -- The expansion Ottawa Redblacks have changed the name of their new lumberjack mascot after receiving some critical feedback on the original choice. The CFL team announced last week that the mascot would go by the handle of "Big Joe Mufferaw." On Monday, the name was changed to "Big Joe" in English and "Grand Jos" in French. "We unintentionally offended some with the original name and we sincerely apologize for that," said Jeff Hunt, the president of the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group, which owns the Redblacks. "We hope to create a fan base that is unified in its support for the Redblacks and we will continue to strive to do our best in that regard." The team received a number of suggestions from fans before naming the mascot. Many wanted it named after late Ottawa storyteller Bernie Bedores character, which was inspired by Joseph Montferrand, a real-life Outaouais logger and defender of Francophone rights in the 1800s. However, critics felt that using the "Mufferaw" name was disrespectful. The team said it plans to continue to seek opportunities to welcome Francophone football fans from Gatineau, Que., and Eastern Ontario and engage the Francophone community with appearances by players and the mascot throughout the region. Big Joe Mufferaw was also immortalized in a famous song by Canadian country-folk legend Stompin Tom Connors. The Redblacks will kick off their inaugural season July 3 in Winnipeg. Their first home game is scheduled for July 18 versus Toronto. Lions quarterback Thomas DeMarco is looking forward to taking centre stage again Friday against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers -- but hes not promising an encore grand performance in his second CFL start. "I have one game under my belt," said DeMarco after B.C.s last full practice Wednesday. "Im not a veteran. Theres certain things I still have to get used to but, having the success of last game and building off of that, Im hoping to keep it going." DeMarco, a second-year pro who is filling in for injured starter Travis Lulay (shoulder), led the Lions to a last-play 24-22 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Regina last weekend. The 24-year-old was calm under pressure as he led the Lions down field and completed a third-and-long pass to set up Paul McCallums winning field goal. But DeMarco is not getting too excited about his press clippings. "The biggest thing is, in a short week, you just got to take a few things you wanna work on that were going to do in this game -- and make sure that you limit your mistakes quickly and have a very keen sense to focusing on this game," he said. "So right now, that last game I had, its over with, done with, and now Im focused on Winnipeg." If the Lions (8-4) can beat the Bombers (2-10) for a second time this season, they will gain a share of first place in the West Division, at least temporarily, with the Calgary Stampeders. DeMarco is starting to feel more comfortable with B.C.s offence after taking the starters reps in practice this week. "The more accustomed that I get to running the show and making sure that I have those reps, its only going to get better from here," he said. Coach Mike Benevides tried to get DeMarco and the rest of his team accustomed to playing in Winnipegs new stadium by pumping in loud music during practice. The quarterback handled the hostile environs in Regina, save for some first-half troubles, without a glaring amount of difficulty. He is expecting another rowdy crowd in the Manitoba capital. "I thought we did well with that (crowd in Regina)," he said. "Its going to be a passionate crowd, just like it was in Saskatchewan. We love playing in front of them. We like the excitement thats going to happen. Were going to do the same thing (a silent count) we did in Saskatchewan. We had a pretty good sense of how to communicate, and I think we should be fine." But he suggested his unspoken communication with receivers is still a work in progress. He could also have to get used to some receivers in different roles. Paris Jackson is slated to go in at wide receiver as Marco Iannuzzi deals with a leg injury suffered on a key late punt return against the Roughriders. Manny Arceneaux, who missed the game in Saskatchewan, is also questionable after aggravating a groin injury late in practice Wednesday. But Benevides believes DeMarco, who was never drafted in the NFL and neeeded six pro tryouts, the last with B.ddddddddddddC. in adverse weather in the Washington, D.C., area, to get a contract, can shine again. Benevides lauded DeMarco for his efforts in last weekends win over Saskatchewan and a strong relief appearance in place of the injured Lulay in a victory over Montreal a week earlier. "It hasnt surprised me, because Ive seen Thomas always come through when hes been challenged," said Benevides. "Any time any quarterback can do what he did in that environment with 38 seconds left, (its) tremendously impressive. The last two games hes been in, hes been giving us a chance to really protect the football, and Im looking for him to continue to grow, because with more repetitions and success in games, the more confidence comes along." DeMarco, an Old Dominion product, has competed 24-of-44 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns this season. He has yet to thrown an interception in his brief CFL career. Benevides said the young signal-caller has not let the added pressure of being a starter get to him. "Thomas has got an outstanding level of confidence," said Benevides. "He also has a quirky personality. He kind of lets (things) roll off his back, and hes got a tremendous sense of humour." But a flu bug within the team has not been a laughing matter. Backup quarterback Buck Pierce, who is slated to return to Winnipeg after a trade earlier this month, was sick Wednesday and stayed away from practice. "Its the first time Ive taken this many reps since training camp," said backup QB Joey Elliott. "So it was good to actually get back in there." Pierce is still slated to travel with the team Thursday. But Elliott, who was released by the Bombers after last season, is making sure that he is prepared just in case. "If Buck is down, Ill be ready to go," said Elliott. "But with it just a basic cold, Buck should be ready to go, and I know hes really excited to be heading back to Winnipeg." Max Hall is slated to get the call for Winnipeg, which has had many struggles at the quarterback position this season. But the Lions are also preparing for Justin Goltz, who started against them at B.C. Place in August. Benevides said the team has studied Hall mostly, because he has seen most of the action between the two. But nickleback Korey Banks said it does not matter which quarterback they face. "Were past that now," said Banks. "Were into the point now where were going to prepare for ourselves. ... If were on our Ps and Qs, were gonna win." Notes: The Lions will head straight to Winnipegs new stadium to check it out after arriving Thursday. ... Special teams player Tim Cronk will get into the lineup as a result of Stu Foords knee injury suffered in Saskatchewan. ... TORONTO -- The elaborate designs Dominic Oduro has worn shaved in his hair have included a black and yellow striped mohawk, a replica slice of pepperoni pizza, and even a neon pink breast cancer ribbon with matching pink mohawk. But Oduro turns heads on the pitch for more than his distinctive hairstyles, and thats all Toronto FC cares about. "I dont think Ill be joining him in any fashion choices," Toronto captain Steven Caldwell said, laughing. "No interest in his hair. Were only interested in his talents on the pitch." TFC acquired the speedy Ghana forward/winger in a trade with the Crew on Friday, sending Spanish winger Alvaro Rey to Columbus. Toronto hopes to have Oduro in the lineup when they host the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday. The 28-year-old Oduro, whose Twitter handle is "Freakyfast8," has 46 goals in 228 MLS appearances, including 139 starts. "Were talking about the fastest or one of the top three fastest guys in the whole league, so its very exciting to have Dominic join us," Caldwell said. "Hes been a dangerous opponent of ours since I came here, scored a couple of goals and been a real thorn in the side. When were defending for long periods with Dominic in the park we can break with such pace, and cause every team in the league problems." The colourful character earned mention on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" after a 2013 goal celebration against Chicago that saw him take a bite of pizza after being passed a slice by a waiting accomplice. Oduro then gave the rest of the pizza to a fan in the stands. He showcased his love for pizza by having the design of a slice shaved into his hair. Asked what he knows about his new teammate, star striker Jermain Defoe said "I just heard that hes fast. I heard that hes really quick. At the end of the day the club has done good business so I can imagine that hes going to improve the team. And he knows that hes coming into a good team, so hopefully he can come and get off to good start and help the team." Toronto (5-4-1) is in sixth in the Eastern Conference -- one spot out of the playoffs -- with several games in hand, and hopes to head into the three-week break for the World Cup on a high note. Coach Ryan Nelsen said hes coveted Oduro since last season, when the six-foot-one player scored in two of the three meetings between the teams. "We know his character really well, we know who he is, and we know that when we scouted Columbus, hes one of the guys that you worry about. Most teams when they scout Columbus, you worry about Dominic Oduro," Nelsen said. "Hes proved in the league that he can be pretty devastating. Hes a nice age, hes got good MLS experience, and can play a couple of positions and hes going to be a very valuable asset to our club." When asked if Toronto was lacking in speed before acquiring Oduro, Nelsen said: "No, but pace always helps doesnt it? "Its always nice to have probably the fastest guy in the league on your team, a guy who scored double-figure goals in the league. It helps, he can play right midfield, he can play striker, so its just another weapon in the arsenal that were trying to build. Were trying to make the squad better, deeper, and we always look to be creative, and well keep doing that." Oduro, who was to arrive in Toronto later Friday, had a career-high 13 goals last season, but is goalless in 11 games (six starts) this season. Prior to Columbus, he played for Chicago, Dallas, Houston and New York. "To my new team, Toronto hope to help the team move forward. Thanks for everyones love and support," the Ghanaian tweeted Friday. Another tweet read: "Wanna thank the Crew organization for the opportunity they gave me to play for them. It was blast but in the end guess it didnt work out." Toronto doesnt play again until June 27 when they travel to New York to face the Red Bulls, and Nelsen said hed love to head into the break with a victory. "Of course its important, to get back to winning ways in front of our home fans," Nelsen said. "Were really motivated, could put us in a really nice position in the league, weve many games in hand." Toronto dropped a 1-0 decision in Montreal on Wednesday, as the Impact won the Amway Canadian Championship, which doesnt count toward Major League Soccer standings. Defoe said his teammates had put that loss behind them. "I think the league is more important," said Jermain Defoe. "To be honest I think that was the main goal before the season started, to have a good run in the league and hopefully get in the playoffs. Now its important to focus on the league, no distractions. Were on a good run at the minute." TFCs last league game was a 3-2 win over Columbus last weekend. San Jose (4-4-4) is coming off its first road win of the season, beating FC Dallas 2-1. "Theyre a very good team, they dont give you much, they have very good centre backs there, and theyre just a very very hard working, solid, well-organized team and they dont give you much in terms of goals," Nelsen said of the Earthquakes. "Credit to Mark Watson, their coach (who is Canadian). Theyre like him, just hard and organized. It will be a very very difficult game." The 24-year-old Rey, meanwhile, had one goal in 20 appearances for Toronto. He made six starts, with one substitute appearance, this season but had been slowed by injury and dropped behind Jonathan Osorio on the left side on depth chart. Prior to joining the Toronto, Rey scored three goals in 28 appearances for Spanish side Xerez. Authentic Omari Spellman Jersey . Parnell will be out much longer if it turns out he needs surgery. Calgary tops both the league and the West Division at 9-2 and is the first team this season to secure a playoff berth. "Weve won in different fashions, but we won as a team and thats the good part," Hufnagel said Monday. "We dont always hit on all cylinders offensively, defensively sometimes were on the field too much, special teams were not as productive as wed like to be, but as a team, one phase has been outstanding to allow us to peck out wins. Thats essentially the sign of a good team." The Stampeders have worked for their wins with a constantly rotating cast of characters. All CFL teams deal with injuries in a season, but the theme of Calgarys season so far is resiliency. The employment of three different starting quarterbacks has been well documented, but the Stampeders have also been forced to cover gaps on the offensive line, at receiver and in the defensive backfield when starters went down. It begs the question how much better Calgary would be if they werent routinely plugging holes in their lineup. "Its hard to improve under those conditions," Hufnagel said. "When you have new people in your lineup, then theres an adjustment period. "Our offensive line has been a scramble all year long. Im hoping that before the season is over we can get our five in there and get a couple games underneath our belt to head into the playoffs. "Same with our quarterback position. With three different quarterbacks playing, its the same playbook, but like Ive always said, each quarterback brings their own personality." Calgarys 26-22 win over Hamilton combined with the Saskatchewans 31-29 loss to the Toronto Argonauts on the weekend allowed the Stampeders to gain sole possession of first place in the West. A 25-7 Edmonton Eskimos victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers eliminated the possibility Winnipeg (2-9) could finish ahead of Calgary in a crossover playoff scenario. The Esks, last in the West at 2-9, also cant catch Calgary because the Stampeders won the season series between the teams. The Stampeders host defending league champion Toronto, the East Division leaders at 7-2, on Saturday in a rematch of last years Grey Cup. The Stampeders are unbeaten at home at 5-0. Calgarys win over the Tiger-Cats on Friday was by no means a classic. Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell struggled early, but marched the Stampeders downfield with two minutes remaining to score the eventual winning touchdown. The defence that had given up 408 passing yards to Hamiltons Henry Burris sprang to life on the last drive of the game.dddddddddddd Sacks by Charleston Hughes and Cordarro Law helped prevent the Ticats from countering with a winning score. Mitchell, 23, was Calgarys third string quarterback in training camp. Hes won his three starts with veterans Drew Tate and Kevin Glenn on the sidelines with injuries. Hes also come onto the field to preserve wins when Glenn has gone out of the game. While Mitchell entertained reporters in the Stampeders dressing room post-game, Glenn walked by chanting "All we do is win. No matter who is playing. We just win." Hufnagel said he allowed himself scotch and a cigar post-game, but that was in celebration of his 62nd birthday. One of the teams big recent improvements is in sacks, with 23 in the last four games. Hughes and Winnipegs Alex Hall were tied for first in the league with a dozen sacks apiece ahead of Law with nine. Receiver Maurice Price has also been an impact player since his return from a hamstring injury with four touchdown catches in the three games. Running back Jon Cornish, who has achieved 1,000 rushing yards for a second straight season, and the consistency of field-goal kicker Rene Paredes, are the constants for Calgary this season. Field goals can feel like settling for less on some drives, but two misses by Hamiltons Luca Congi on Friday reinforced the importance of Paredess contributions to Calgarys bottom line. Paredes set a CFL record of 39 consecutive field goals before missing his first of the season Aug. 24 in Toronto. He was 12 for 12 in his last three games. If he can maintain his 97.2 per cent completion rate, Paredes will break the single-season record of 94.3 held by B.C.s Paul McCallum. "Rene has been exceptional with his field-goal kicking and his ability to put it through the goal posts has really determined the outcome of a lot of our football games," Hufnagel said. "One of the reasons we are in first place is because of Renes consistency." The coach expects both Glenn and fullback Rob Cote returning to full practice this week after knee and shoulder injuries respectively. Offensive linemen Dan Federkeil (groin) and Dimitri Tsoumpas (concussion) remain out. Receiver Joe West (shoulder) is close to returning, but has two games remaining on the nine-game injured list. "We know we need to improve in all areas and hopefully I can get the guys back that have been injured who have been starters at the beginning of the year and get them playing good football," Hufnagel said. BLOEMFONTEIN, South Africa -- The Crusaders scored four of their six tries in the last 17 minutes to beat the Cheetahs 52-31 in Super Rugby with a powerful finish on Saturday. Wing Nemani Nadolo collected a hat trick. Trailing by five points after 63 minutes, the Crusaders found late energy to subdue a Cheetahs team in a free-flowing 10-try game at Free State Stadium. Super Rugbys most successful team also made it two wins from two from its tour of South Africa, lifting it within range of the playoff places. The Christchurch-based Crusaders led 26-10 after Nadolo went over for his first in the opening minute of the second half, benefiting from a slick offload out wide from fit-again No. 8 and captain Kieran Read. Cheetahs centre Johann Sadie inspired the home teams brief fight-back, setting up two of three tries for the strugglers in an eight-minute burst from the 50th. But the seven-time champion Crusaders roared home at the end as tries from replacement Tom Taylor, flyhalf Colin Slade and two more from the rampant Nadolo sealed victory in style. Slade scored 25 points. Sadie was the Cheetahs best player, slicing through the midfield in the 17th to set up the games first five-pointer for wing Cornal Hendricks. All Blacks fullback Israel Dagg replied for the Crusaders in the 28th, straight after a disallowed Cheetahs try, when he raced onto a chip through in the right corner. Nadolo ran in his first straight from the kickoff after a Cheetahs error, and after Read committed two players and flipped a pass away to the big left wing. With Slades conversion, the Crusaders led 26-10. Sadies chip and collect for the Cheetahs set up scrumhalf Sarel Pretorius dash to the corner and replacement loose forward Teboho Mohoje then burst through two tackles and beat Dagg in a race to the line. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - The photo emblazoned on the front of Chris Harris Jr.s navy sweat shirt was a tribute to his favourite Denver Broncos cornerback — himself, of course. And the No fly zone caption underneath the image was fitting, too, since his side of the field has certainly become restricted air space, with QBs shying away from him.Still, Harris cover skills fly under the radar, hardly mentioned in the same breath as other elite defensive backs around the league. But he certainly got paid like one last week when the Broncos rewarded him with a five-year contract extension worth $42.5 million.Thats actually a hometown discount for an organization that took a chance on the undrafted college free agent out of Kansas in 2011. Had Harris hit free agency in the off-season, he wouldve earned more.Just ask him.I definitely could have gotten more off the open market, laughed the 25-year-old Harris, who had his wife and infant daughter in the audience Monday at a news conference to announce his extension. I know that, we all know that, but its not all about money at the end of the day. Its about being happy, and Im satisfied.Well, satisfied everywhere but on the field, anyway. Because he plays with an attitude after going undrafted, which he thinks is the root cause as to why he doesnt receive as much recognition as, say, a Richard Sherman or a Darrelle Revis or even his teammate — in Denver and at Kansas — Aqib Talib. This could be the season where Harris gains more notoriety, though, possibly make his first Pro Bowl team. Hes having that kind of year for the AFC West champion Broncos (11-3), with three interceptions and a team-leading 15 passes defended in limited chances.I always thought once you get your contract, I think thats when the accolades and all that stuff comes, said Harris, the protege of recently retired and future Hall of Famer Champ Bailey. But I think people are still going to see me as an underrated player just because of my size and the way I came into the league.Thats just something where I know my whole career Im going to have to deal with that.Broncos boss John Elway certainly saw something in him. And after only a handful of practices, too.He stood out and I said, We have something here, Elway recounted. Since hes been here, hes shown what he can do.Especially last season, when he turned in a standout season before tearing his left ACL in the Broncos divisional playoff against the Chargers. He watched the Super Bowl from the sideline and then underwent surgery. He was back in less than seven months. Hasnt missed a step, either.Chris just has something in his head and his heart — he dont like to lose, Talib said. Hes one of the most competitive guys Ive ever come across in my life. The Broncos have now made quite an investment in their secondary, locking up Harris and Talib to the tune of nearly $100 million.A hefty price, but necessary in this quarterback-savvy league. The passing games a big part of the game right now and so you cant have enough good cover guys, Elway said. To be able to have two guys like we have in Aqib and now Chris under contract, its very, very important.Next up for Elway is working out deals for receiver Demaryius Thomas and tight end Julius Thomas. Looming on the horizon is hybrid linebacker Von Miller as well. Were hoping that we can get everybody, Elway said. Its never going to be easy, but Chris was the target to start with and we were thankful to get that done, so we hope that we can continue to do that and keep this team together.Im happy for guys like Chris. Im happy for him because hes the type of guy you want around, a great competitor, tough. It just gives him confidence to know what we think of him but also know that hes got that ability to step up and be that kind of leader.___AP Pro Football Writer Arnie Stapleton contributed to this report.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Justin Faulk Jersey . No challenge has been too difficult for Virginia, with the team a perfect 8-0 entering Saturdays duel. The Cavaliers most recent success came on the road against former ACC rival Maryland (76-65). They will begin a three-game homestand next, beginning against Cleveland State on Dec. 18. VCU is starting a three-game homestand of its own in this contest, with dates against Northern Iowa and Belmont coming up. The Rams topped Illinois State on the road last time out (66-62), improving their overall record to 5-2 in the process. These in-state rivals have met 12 times previously, with Virginia claiming victory 10 times. However, when they met last season, the Rams escaped with a 59-56 win at John Paul Jones Arena. Virginia led by as many as 18 points and never trailed against Maryland. The Cavaliers were successful on 53.1 percent of their shots from the floor, while limiting the Terrapins to 30 percent accuracy. They also enjoyed a 36-20 scoring edge in the paint and a 34-22 advantage in rebounds. Malcolm Brogdon scored a game-high 18 points, while Justin Anderson finished with 16 points and six boards, which tied for the team lead. Last season, Virginia used its exceptional defensive ability to roll to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Cavaliers are following the same blueprint this season. They currently rank among the top-five teams in the country in scoring defense (46.dddddddddddd ppg, second), opponent field goal percentage (.311, fourth), opponent assists (7.1 apg, second) and opponent rebounds (26.4 rpg, third). Anderson (15.1 ppg) has made great strides as a scorer this season, connecting on 54.4 percent of his field goal attempts. Anthony Gill (12.4 ppg, 6.4 rpg) scores and rebounds well, and Brogdon (12.2 ppg) is a tenacious defender, who can put the ball in the basket as well. VCU avoided a setback against Illinois State thanks to a 13-5 run to finish the contest, capped by a pair of free throws by Briante Weber with four seconds to play. The Rams only made 33.8 percent of their shots from the floor, but they had 25 more field goal attempts than did the Redbirds because of 24 forced turnovers and 19 offensive rebounds. Melvin Johnson drained five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 19 points. Shaka Smarts HAVOC defensive scheme has not been as effective this season. The Rams are logging a solid number of steals per game (9.1), but they have not really slowed down teams offensively, with opponents falling just below 70 points per game and 45 percent shooting. Treveon Graham (17.4 ppg, 6.3 rpg) and Johnson (17.1 ppg) have each taken it upon themselves to be the offensive forces for the squad. Weber (8.8 ppg, 5.2 apg, 3.8 spg) is the next-best scorer on the roster, but he makes more of an impact as a passer and a defender, with his ability to rack up assists and steals. cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

Despite a tough year in which he lost his No. 1 status and was unable to prevent a late season collapse, James Reimer said he wants to put the past behind him and is looking forward to spending the next two years in a Maple Leaf uniform. “Im excited about going forward for the next two years with them,” Reimer said on TSN 1050 Monday. “Im really pumped to be here for another two years.” Relegated to back-up duty following an impressive 2012-13 season in which he led the Leafs to their first playoff berth in eight years, the 26-year-old is hopeful the relationship between him and the organization is improving. “I think last year was a tough year for everyone,” Reimer said. “Over the course of the summer and now theyve done a great job of communicating with me.” Following a solid start to the season, both Reimer and the team struggled down the stretch and dropped 12 out of their last 14 games to miss the playoffs. In the midst of the collapse, the goaltender and his head coach had conflicting statements following a tough loss to the Red Wings in which Reimer allowed three goals on 34 shots. “I thought he was okay, you know, just okay,” Carlyle said post-game, to which Reimer replied: “He said just okay? I thought I was good.” The goaltenders agent, Ray Petkau added fuel to the fire tweeting: “As is customary in Toronto, when your team plays poor defensively game after game, you blame your goalie,” before clarifying that the tweet was not in response to Carlyles comments. Despite the perceived rift, Reimer said the incident is in the past and he is ready to move forward. “I havent talked to him since the end of the year, but as far as I know, its fine,” Reimer said in reference to Carlyle. “I think that whole situation was blown out of proportion…Im looking forward to this season I dont foresee any issues whatsoever. “Maybe I should start wearing sunglasses behind the bench,” Reimer jokingly said in reference to a frustrated look he gave Carlyle after being pulled early on in a game that also generated attention. “That situation was probably blown out of proportion.” Addressing rumours that surfaced following the season that had him requesting a trade, the netminder said events over the off-season along with the hiring of Brendan Shanahan gave him confidence that the organization was heading in the right direction. “Thats not the case now, thats for sure…At the end of the year, I thought the opportunity was over, that the door was closed,” Reimer said. “But over the summer, it became clear that this is definitely the place that I want to be.” Reimer on returning, relationship with Carlyle Petr Mrazek Jersey .Hoffenheim forward Anthony Modeste opened the scoring on a counterattack in the 15th minute, shooting though Jaroslav Drobnys legs after Lewis Holtby lost the ball in midfield. Toronto had won two straight heading into Wednesdays outdoor game, which was hosted by the Detroit Red Wings at Michigan Stadium. James van Riemsdyk and Bozak supplied Torontos regulation goals, while Jonathan Bernier turned aside 41-of-43 shots to allow the Leafs to jump over Detroit in the Atlantic Division standings and win their third straight. Mats Zuccarello picked up a goal and assist for the Rangers, while Henrik Lundqvist gave up all five goals on 28 shots in defeat. "We didnt trust each other defensively and we gave them too much space," Zuccarello admitted. "Pittsburgh is a good team and its easy to get confused about assignments when its not tight." Dorsett, who has three goals, two assists and 103 penalty minutes in 37 games this season, is expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks of action. The Rangers fell to 2-2-0 on a five-game road trip that wraps up tonight in Toronto. WASHINGTON -- Washingtons Ian Desmond took a substantial lead off third base in the seventh inning of a tie game, wondering whether St. Louis pitcher Michael Wacha might leave a changeup in the dirt. "I was just kind of anticipating," Desmond explained later. Sure enough, Wacha threw a wild pitch that bounced away from catcher Yadier Molina, who compounded the problem with a throwing error as Desmond charged home, leading to a second unearned run on the play. That was enough to propel Gio Gonzalez and the Nationals to a 3-1 victory Friday night, ending their eight-game losing streak against the Cardinals. "I saw it bounce off a little bit. I said, Weve got to take a chance here," Desmond said. "And fortunately for us, it worked out." Said Nationals manager Matt Williams: "You never see a ball get away from Yadi. Ever." Thats because Molina has won six consecutive NL Gold Glove awards. But his miscue fit, somehow, with this series so far. A night after the Nationals made three errors -- they initially were charged with four, but one was changed to a hit Friday -- in an 8-0 loss, it was the Cardinals turn to be sloppy. St. Louis finished with three errors, two coming in the pivotal seventh inning. A pair of singles and an error by third baseman Matt Carpenter -- who dropped Wachas throw of Danny Espinosas bunt -- loaded the bases with no outs. "I stretched before I saw where it was going and ended up missing it. It was a good throw. I should have caught it," Carpenter said. "But it tipped off my glove and ended up being the difference in the game." Wacha struck out Nate McLouth and got Jose Lobaton to hit a roller that led to a forceout at home. But with pinch hitter Zach Walters up, Wachas pitch darted to his catchers right. "Just spiked a changeup," Wacha said. Molina tried to make an underhand toss to Wacha, but the throw -- which did not appear in time to beat Desmond, anyway -- was off-target. It went into the Cardinals dugout, allowing Espinosa to score, too. "Im just trying to make a play," Molina said. "I threw it away. My fault." Desmond shouted and punched the air, a 1-1 game suddenly 3-1. "Desi made the decision instantly to get toward the plate," Williams said. "He read it correctly." Wacha (2-1) gave up five hits and one earned run. On Sept. 24, in his ninth career start, Wacha no-hit the Nationals until there were two outs in the ninth inning, when Ryan Zimmermans infield single ended the bid. This time, Washington had three hits by the third, when Anthony Rendons solo shot came off a first-pitch 74 mph curveball. Gonzalez (3-1) allowed one run and four hits in seven innings, retiring the last 11 batters he faced. He had seven strikeouts and one walk as Washington beat St. Louis for the first time since Game 4 of the teams 2012 NL division series. "It was one of those games that we needed. We needed to bounce back," Gonzalez said about Friday. "We needed something like this. It put us back together. Now we go from here, one game at a time." Nationals reliever Tyler Clippard came on for the eighth and needed 26 pitches just to get one out. With runners on second and third, and No. 3-4 batters Matt Holliday and Allen Craig coming up, Clippard was replaced by Drew Storen. "Youve got two great hitters right there, guys in scoring position," Storen said. He was the closer back in October 2012, when he let the Cardinals erase a 7-5 deficit with two outs in the top of the ninth of Game 5 to win 9-7. But this time, Storen got Holliday on a popup in foul territory, then Craig on a groundout, before Rafael Soriano shook off a comebacker that hit his leg and a walk in the ninth to earn his fourth save. "A good win. Theyre a tremendous team. Theyve gotten the best of us in the past," Rendon said. "But were trying to change that." NOTES: Nationals CF Denard Span (7-day DL, concussion) is expected to be in Washington for Saturdays game. ... Villarreal stayed in fourth place and two points behind third-place Real Madrid. Leader Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are a further two points ahead. "We hope we can keep this up and stay in the Champions League spots," Cani said. "We are not going to settle for less. Although we do remember that we have just come up from the second division." Striker Jeremy Perbet needed 30 seconds to put Villarreal ahead at El Madrigal Stadium by volleying in a cross by Hernan Perez that Cani had headed down to him in the area. Despite the early blow, Espanyol hung in the match thanks to Kiko Casillas goalkeeping to stop two shots by Giovani Dos Santos before halftime. Javier Aguirres team, which was full of second-choice players, then pressed Villarreal into its area at the start of the second half. But Cani set up substitute Jonathan Pereira to tap in the hosts second goal off the break in the 67th after streaking down the left flank. Espanyol, however, wasnt done and forward Sergio Garcia pulled one back in the 80th when he spun away from his marker and drilled a shot past goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo to leave the result in doubt until the final whistle. It was Espanyols first loss of the season. "Both goals that we conceded could have been prevented," Aguirre said. "We can lose a game but maintaining a sense of order is a priority for us. We scraped and played well, but Villarreal had the answer. We can only congratulate them because theyre on a great run." Also, Athletic Bilbao fought back for an entertaining 2-1 win over Real Betis, while Getafe beat visiting Celta Vigo 2-0. Biilbao dominated the match at the new San Mames Stadium, which has sections of seating still under construction, with forward Ibai Gomez peppering Betis area with crosses from the left wing and hitting the crossbar twice before halftime.dddddddddddd But Betis goalkeeper Guillermo Sara saved a penalty kick taken by Benat Etxebarria in the 58th when Markel Susaeta wrong-footed Xavi Torres and was tripped by the midfielder in the box. In a rare excursion into Bilbaos area, Betis forward Jorge Molina poked his own rebound from a header saved by Gorka Iraizoz under the keeper from a tight angle to snatch the lead in the 62nd. Bilbao kept pushing forward and the 73rd-minute equalizer came through Oscar de Marcos, who went on in the 70th and soon raced in to head Benats cross between Saras legs. Defender Mikel San Jose was then left unmarked to head in Gomezs cross-- the first one he sent in from the right side-- to take Bilbaos winner in the 82nd. Molina almost grabbed a draw for Betis, which was left with just one victory this season, with a shot off the post four minutes from time. "To be fair, Athletic should have gone into halftime ahead," said Betis coach Pepe Mel. "From there on, with the saved penalty, the sensation that I take away is that we did enough to take a point." Getafe centre back Lisandro Lopez scored one goal and set up a second to give the Madrid-based team its second victory of the season. Lopez headed in a cross by Pedro Leon one minute before halftime, and the Argentine flicked on Leons corner kick for Alvaro Arroyo to double the advantage five minutes after the break. OAKLAND, Calif. -- Coco Crisp drove in Kyle Blanks with a two-out single in the eighth inning and the Oakland Athletics beat the Boston Red Sox 4-3 on Friday night. Josh Donaldson hit a three-run home run, his first in two weeks, to help the As extend their winning streak to four games. Oakland also owns the best record in the majors. Boston reliever Andrew Miller (2-5) hit Blanks and Alberto Callaspo with back-to-back pitches with one out in the eighth. After Nick Punto struck out looking, Crisp lined a 2-2 pitch to right and Blanks easily scored ahead of the throw from Brock Holt. Sean Doolittle pitched the ninth for his 10th save. The As closer also extended his scoreless streak to 23 1/3 innings, the longest active mark in the AL. Oakland only managed two hits off Boston starter Felix Doubront and had stranded eight runners before Crisp delivered the game-winner. Fernando Abad (2-2) pitched one inning for the win. The As have won the first two of this series after dropping two of three to the Red Sox at Fenway Park last month. Crisp entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the seventh and struck out against reliever Burke Badenhop. Both teams squandered multiple scoring opportunities. The Red Sox left two on in the fourth and failed to score after loading the bases in the fifth. The As had two on in the third, fourth and seventh but stranded them each time. Oakland starter Brad Mills struck out the side in the first before Boston loaded the bases with one out in the second following an error by Oakland second baseman Punto. Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a two-run single to drive in Mike Napoli and Jonny Gomes. It could have been worse. As centre fielder Craig Gentry made a diving catch on Holts sinking liner, then threw to second to double off Stephen Drew. Boston tied it on David Ortizs RBI single in the third. Mills, acquired in a trade from Milwaukee earlier in the week, had not pitched in the majors since 2012. He walked four and struck out four before leaving after pitching out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth. Donaldsons three-run homer off Doubront in the first was his first since June 6.
