Scot McCloughan is returning to the NFL. As first reported by the NFL Network, McCloughan is finalizing a deal with the Washington Redskins to become the team’s next general manager. The deal would strip Bruce Allen of player personnel control, but Allen will remain with the Redskins as team president. McCloughan was general manager of the San Francisco 49ers from 2008 to 2010 and is widely credited with building the team’s strong roster, but left ahead of the 2010 NFL Draft for personal reasons. McCloughan also spent time in the Seattle Seahawks front office after his stint with the 49ers before leaving for personal issues. Both times McCloughan left due to alcohol issues.
