The right-hander had surgery to remove Antworten

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Reds starter Mat Latos had an MRI on his sore pitching forearm Saturday, a new problem that leaves him unsure of the next step in his recovery from a knee injury. The right-hander had surgery to remove bone chips from his elbow after last season. His comeback was on schedule until he tore cartilage in his left knee while throwing in February. He had surgery the day the Reds opened camp. Latos was one of eight Reds who opened the season on the disabled list. The Reds were hoping to have him back by the middle of April, but his latest setback has pushed that back. Latos was scratched from a rehab start in the minors this week because of elbow soreness. He threw on Friday but had to stop when his forearm became sore. "Now its the forearm," Latos said. "We thought we had it hammered out, but it came back on me." The Reds were awaiting the test results before deciding the next step. "Mat obviously didnt feel very good yesterday," manager Bryan Price said. "Everything started out fine, then he threw a pitch that bothered the inside of his right elbow and were smart enough to know that we needed to shut him down. "Theyre doing some testing to see if theres some swelling and tightness in the area. Were hoping thats all it is. Were optimistic thats it, but it is a step back." Latos and closer Aroldis Chapman -- sidelined until at least May after being struck in the forehead by a line drive during spring training -- both rode in the citys opening day parade. Latos was frustrated that his arm began to bother him this week, extending his comeback. "Its definitely bugging me," he said. "Im definitely not getting a good nights sleep because of it." The Mavericks led from the start and never trailed, taking a 22-point lead and staying ahead by double digits most of the game. But they had to earn this one. A day after dismantling the roster and trading away Evan Turner, Spencer Hawes and Lavoy Allen, the Sixers had just eight players in uniform. Thaddeus Young scored 30 and Michael Carter-Williams had 25 for Philadelphia, which has looked toward next season and beyond since training camp. "They played hard," Brown said. "Were trying to identify athletes and how they compete." The Sixers, who have the NBAs second-worst record, made four trades before Thursdays deadline, giving up three players and a draft pick for five players and six second-round draft picks between 2014 and 2018. Theyre hoping for a top-3 draft pick and trying to clear space under the salary cap to make a run at quality free agents. "Were focused on building something for Philadelphia to put a program in a place to compete when it matters," general manager Sam Hinkie said. "And we feel that yesterday was just another step in that process." While the Sixers eye the future, the Mavericks are making a playoff push. Theyre in a tight battle with four teams for the final three playoff spots in the West. "They have a bunch of fast, athletic guys," Nowitzki said of Philadelphia. "Give them credit. They kept competing." Nowitzki hit consecutive 3s in the opening minutes. The Mavericks were up by 22 after Vince Carter nailed a 3 late in the first quarter, and made 16 of their first 21 shots.
