Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos has been forced to withdraw from his bout with Stipe Miocic at "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3" finale on May 31 in Sao Paolo, Brazil due to a fractured hand. Mixed martial arts website Combate initially reported the injury with the UFC later confirming on Monday. "Im really sad. I apologize to my fans, to the UFC and to my opponent, Stipe Miocic, and hope to have another opportunity to fight in Brazil once my hand is healed," dos Santos said in a statement. The heavyweight fight between dos Santos and Miocic was originally moved into the main event slot after the reality shows coaches fight between Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen was pushed to UFC 175 in July after Silva injured his hand in an on-set scuffle with Sonnen. Now, Grace Tourinho, the UFCs CEO in Brazil, told Combate that the promotion will try to replace dos Santos or find a new main event all together. The main card will feature the "TUF: Brazil 3" middleweight and heavyweight finals, as well as a welterweight fight between Demian Maia and Alexander Yakovlev and a featherweight contest between Rony Jason and Robbie Peralta. None of the closest challengers have been able to gain ground on the Athletics either. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim had been closing the gap, but a recent slump knocks them to third, one spot behind the Washington Nationals, who have the best run differential in the National League, but have been generally mediocre over the past 20 games. Among those jumping up this week, the Baltimore Orioles are up from nine to five, with a 12-4 record over the past 16 games as they pull away in the American League East. The Seattle Mariners have won seven of their past eight games, with their only loss in that span coming in extra innings, so the Mariners made a big move, going from 12 to seven. Also rising five spots, the Kansas City Royals, who go from 15 to 10, after posting 11 wins in 12 games prior to Tuesday nights loss to Oakland. Staying in the fight, even without David Price, the Tampa Bay Rays climb from 21 to 17, with one regulation loss in the past eight games. The biggest fall of the week belongs to the St. Louis Cardinals, down from six to 11. They are 3-8 in August and really need some good health. Adam Lind has returned to the lineup and Edwin Encarnacion should be on his way soon.
