ROGERS, Ark. -- Stacy Lewis made a 7-foot birdie putt on the final hole Sunday in the NW Arkansas Championship to finally win an official event in her adopted state. The top-ranked Lewis, the Texan who played at the nearby University of Arkansas, earned an unofficial win in the rain-shortened 2007 tournament as an amateur. On Sunday, she closed with a 6-under 65 for a one-stroke victory. Lewis birdied three of her final holes for her third LPGA Tour victory of the year and 11th overall. She finished at 12-under 201 at Pinnacle Country Club. Lydia Ko, Cristie Kerr and Angela Stanford tied for second. Ko finished with a 65, and Kerr and Stanford shot 67. Second-round leader Michelle Wie shot a 73 to tie for eighth at 8 under. Kerr had a chance to match Lewis at 12 under with a 30-foot birdie putt on the 18th. However, her putt came up short. Then, after So Yeon Ryu failed to make an eagle on the final hole, Lewis win was secured. Ryu ended up fifth at 10 under after a 69. Lewis won the Shoprite Classic this month as well as the North Texas Shootout in May. The two-time major winner has long said, though, how much pressure she felt to win in Arkansas -- where she was a four-time All-American in college and is greeted throughout rounds by calls of "Woo Pig Sooie." She was tied for the lead entering the final round last year before finishing in a tie for fourth, but her final birdie spree finally secured her sought-after win Sunday. Wie began the final round with a two-shot lead after back-to-back 5-under 66s, but she missed short birdie putts on the first two holes and struggled to a 1-over front nine -- capped by a three-putt bogey on the ninth. The whirlwind media tour following last weeks win at the U.S. Womens Open appeared to finally catch up after that with Wie, who followed with bogeys on Nos. 10 and 11 to effectively end her contention. She finished with 35 putts after needing 28 the first round and 29 in the second. With Wie coming back to the field, several players climbed up the leaderboard and into contention on the back nine -- with Lewis, Ko, Kerr and Stanford part of a four-way tie atop the leaderboard at one point. Lewis began the tournament 2 over after her first four holes Friday, but she closed by shooting 14 under over her final 68 holes. She took advantage of the opening with Wies stumble and vaulted into the solo lead at 11 under with a birdie on the par-4 16th. Ko and Kerr answered with birdies to climb back to part of a three-way tie at 11 under, but Lewis had the last answer -- a 7-foot left-to-right birdie putt on No. 18 that resulted in a huge ovation from the pro-Arkansas gallery and a fist pump and sigh of relief from Lewis. Lewis putted 25 times Sunday, a day after needing only 24 putts in the second round. Chella Choi briefly was tied for the lead early in the round after a hole-in-one on the 166-yard par-3 sixth hole. She finished with a 69 to tie for sixth at 9 under. Royals Brian Flynn Jersey . (SportsNetwork.com) - The New York Rangers earned a lopsided victory the last time out and they hope to build off that triumph when they visit the lowly Edmonton Oilers in Sundays battle at Rexall Place. New York began a four-game road trip with Saturdays 5-1 rout of the Vancouver Canucks. The win pushed Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault to 3-0 against the Canucks since they fired him following the 2012-13 season and the Blueshirts have outscored Vancouver by a combined 13-4 margin in those three encounters. Mats Zuccarello scored a pair of goals as New York used a three-goal first- period to jump all over the Canucks at Rogers Arena. J.T. Miller, Marc Staal and Ryan McDonagh also lit the lamp for the Rangers. Derick Brassard and Rick Nash each added a pair of assists, while Henrik Lundqvist turned in a 29-save effort for the win. You can tell that we had the jump tonight, said Lundqvist. Thats the way we have to play. Saturdays blowout victory was the second straight win for the Rangers, who have only won three in a row once this season. New York went 3-0 from Oct. 16-21 and the clubs current two-game streak marks only the second time the Blueshirts have recorded consecutive victories since that season-high winning streak. Backup Cam Talbot is expected to spell Lundqvist in net tonight. Talbot is 1-1-0 with a 1.01 goals against average in two career outings against Edmonton. While the defending Eastern Conference champions are aiming to match their longest winning streak of the season tonight, the Oilers are simply looking for something positive to shake them out of a terrible funk. Edmonton is last in the NHL with 19 points and has suffered defeats in 14 of its last 15 trips to the ice. Carolina also has 19 points on the season, but is one place ahead of the Oilers in the league standings due to having played one less game. The Oilers have lost three in a row -- all in regulation -- and were handed a 4-2 setback by visiting Anaheim on Friday night in the finale of a home-and- home series. Edmonton lost a 2-1 road decision to the Ducks on Wednesday. With actual wins hard to come by, the perpetually rebuilding Oilers at least achieved minor victories by making competitive games of both contests against the NHL-leading Ducks. Edmonton was down 3-0 at one point on Friday before rallying to make it a one-goal game. Kyle Palmieri and Ryan Getzlaf scored in a 44-second span in the opening minute of the second period to hand the Ducks their 3-0 cushion. However, the Oilers received a goal late in the second from Tyler Pitlick before Jeff Petrys power-play tally made it a 3-2 contest at 12:40 of the third. The Oilers outshot Anaheim 11-4 in the third period, but Nate Thompson would eventually seal the win for the Ducks with his empty-net tally in the final minute. I feel like Ive said this eight times this year. A couple bad shifts killed us. They had two Grade A chances at the start of the second, lamented Oilers forward Taylor Hall, who posted an assist in the setback. Viktor Fasth suffered both losses against the Ducks, his former team. Fasth was pulled 21 minutes into his start on Friday after giving up three goals on 12 shots. Ben Scrivens stopped all seven shots he faced in relief. Scrivens will get the start in net tonight. He is 2-1-0 with a 2.00 GAA in three career games against the Rangers. The Oilers have won three of the last four meetings against the Rangers and notched a 3-1 victory when the clubs meet in the Big Apple on Nov. 9. Fasth stopped 20-of-21 shots in that contest, while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and former Ranger Benoit Pouliot each posted a goal and an assist for Edmonton. New York has won two of the past three encounters at Rexall Place. White Sox Paul Konerko Jersey . Didnt need any help this time. But the 23-year old reliever for the Atlanta Braves was ready nonetheless. Simmons struck out Jarrod Saltalamacchia to end the eighth inning in a one-run game as the Braves went on to beat the Miami Marlins 9-5 on Saturday. "I wasnt really thinking," Simmons said. "I thought I was done for the day and Id just come tomorrow, but luckily I went in and threw strikes." Veteran catcher Gerald Laird helped Simmons settle in with the Braves leading 6-5 with runners on first and second. "I told him, Dont worry about calling your game. Let me call the game, just throw it where I call it," Laird said. "And he did a good job of that." Simmons was one of six Braves relievers used to help Ervin Santana (5-2) win his first game since May 10 against the Cubs. "I drank a whole bottle of coffee because I thought I felt like I was about to doze off out there (in the bullpen)," Simmons said. "Then all of the guys just started talking and said to treat it like any other day." Jason Heyward and Freddie Freeman each drove in a pair of runs to lead the Braves offence, which pounded out 12 hits. "It was nice to add some runs up on the board," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Guys got some good at-bats." Santana (5-2) allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings. He struck out four. Craig Kimbrel got the last two outs for his 15th save of the season, which tied him with John Smoltz for the most saves in franchise history with 154. "I know if John would have done it his whole career he would have had a lot more," Kimbrel said. "It is nice to say Im a part of something like that, but then again Ive had a lot of opportunities and played on some good ball teams in the first three or four years. If it werent for that case, we wouldnt be sitting here talking about this right now." Derek Dietrich and Casey McGehee each drove in two runs and Christian Yelich had three hits for the Marlins as starter Jacob Turner (1-3) took the loss allowing five runs in five innings. Six Miami pitchers combined to walk nine batters and three errors led to two unearned runs.dddddddddddd "Were walking way too many guys and then you cap that off with sloppy defence," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "Were going up against the best teams in baseball. To go out there and compete we have to play better baseball." Miami bench coach Rob Leary was ejected in the bottom of the eighth inning by home plate umpire Quinn Wolcott for arguing balls and strikes during an at-bat by Giancarlo Stanton with David Carpenter on the mound. "Everybody was yelling in there," Redmond said. "They just picked Rob, the poor guy. I have to give him some money." Immediately after the ejection Stanton singled and McGehee drove him home with a double to pull Miami within 6-4. Two batters later Marcell Ozuna brought the Marlins within a run with a base hit. Carpenter exited without recording an out in the four batters he faced. Simmons struck out slumping Jarrod Saltalamacchia to end the inning with runners on first and second. Saltalamacchia is 1 for his last 21. "The kid did a nice job," Gonzalez said of Simmons. The Braves scored three runs in the ninth off A.J. Ramos on Lairds RBI single, Ramiro Penas squeeze bunt, and B.J. Uptons bases loaded walk. "I just didnt find the zone, plain and simple," Ramos said. "Whenever I missed, it was too big of a miss." Kimbrel came on in the bottom of the ninth with two runners on and the game appeared to be over on a ground ball by Stanton, but Pena dropped a routine throw to second on a fielders choice, which loaded the bases for Miami. Kimbrel calmly retired McGehee to end the game. "We played a good ball game today, we hit the ball when we needed to and we pitched when we needed to," Kimbrel said. NOTES: Kimbrels save percentage of 90.1 (154 for 171) ranks third all-time among Major League pitchers with at least 150 opportunities. ... VANCOUVER -- Jannik Hansen does not have to worry about his NHL job security for quite some time. The utility winger signed a US$10-million, four-year contract extension with the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday. "Its something I wanted," Hansen told reporters after practice. "Were a good fit. I like it here. To come to a new agreement now, it makes it a lot easier on the sour days. It was something that I was hopeful that theyd be willing to do." The new deal will kick in at the start of the 2014-15 season, so the Canucks have effectively locked him up for five seasons. It comes as he is expected to play a key role early in the upcoming campaign, which the Canucks begin Thursday in San Jose. Hansen could start on the first line, depending on how new coach John Tortorella wants to deploy Alex Burrows. If Burrows takes his usual spot on the first line, as he did late in the pre-season, Hansen could play on the second line. That depends on if David Booths recovery from a groin injury suffered in the pre-season and an ankle problem that sidelined him since March before he played an exhibition game heal quickly. At the very least, Hansen will play on a third line that is in a state of transition with new players -- and also vying to beef up its offensive production. Hansen said the new contract allows him to concentrate on having a good season instead of worrying about his future with the club. "It was fairly easy," he said. "It took a couple days to get it done. ... Its familiar. Its comforting and, again, you know where youre going to be." But the 27-year-old from Herlev, Denmark, who had 10 goals and 17 assists in 47 games for Vancouver last season, did not have the same luxury at the outset of his career. He was selected by Vancouver in the seventh round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft and spent most of his first two pro seasons in the minors. He also had to battle for playing time with the Canucks during his third and fourth seasons as he was dispatched to their former Manitoba farm club in the AHL in the third and fourth campaigns as well. Since then he has established himself as a tenacious, grinding NHL winger who also has speed and can score on occasion. He also has the ability to play all four lines. "Obviously, its nice to have (more security), not only for financial (reasons), but also in terms of not being tossed around (between the NHL and minors) like you usually do in your earlier years where its kind of hard to set up a base," said Hansen. One of few players from Denmark in the NHL, Hansen has represented his homeland at the IIHF world hockey championships four times (2012, 2008, 2006 and 2005). He has 50 goals and 81 assists in 318 career NHL games, all of them with the Canucks. The six-foot-one, 197-pound Hansen has also appeared in 58 career NHL playoff games, with five goals and nine assists. But he is coveted by coaches for much more than the limited offence for which he is known. His versatility, he feels, has helped him earn the sizable salary and contract with decent term. "I think thats the reason ... being able to do a little bit of everything," he said. "When I wasnt scoring, I was chipping in in other areas. That kind of made me stick around when, maybe, other players got sent back down. And, again, its probably why Im here today." Canucks general manager Mike Gillis also likes his versatility, suggesting to reporters that Hansens ability to play on different lines factored prominently into the teams decision to re-sign him. New coach John Tortorella, who bills himself as a situational coach and is known for being highly demanding, also likes the different dimensions that Hansen can bring to a game. "From what I know of him, hes a utility guy in my eyes," said Tortorella. "I can put him in a lot of different spots. (He can) play up and down the lineup in a lot of different roles. I think he needs to understand a little bit how we play defence. But hes had a good (training) camp. "He impresses me. So I think (his new contract) is a good thing." Offering praise that was rarely heard on other players performances in the pre-season, Tortorella said Hansen played "very well." The coach also likes his ability to handle special-teams duties. Goaltender Roberto Luongo was glad to see the Canucks re-sign Hansen, an extremely popular figure in the dressing room who is known for being highly diligent to his duties in practice. "Im happy for him, hes a really hard-working guy and he deserves it," said Luongo. Knowing such a possibility was unlikely, Luongo also added with a wry grin and chuckle: "I just hope he doesnt start slacking." Meanwhile, the Canucks acquired winger Zac Dalpe and centre Jeremy Welsh from the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday in a trade for winger Kellan Tochkin and Vancouvers fourth-round pick in the 2014 draft. Dalpe, a 23-year-old Paris, Ont., native, split the 2012-13 season between the Hurricanes and Charlotte Checkers of the AHL. The six-foot-one and 195-pound Ohio State product recorded three points (1-2-3) in 10 games with Carolina last season and 42 points (21-21-42) and 12 penalty minutes in 54 games with Charlotte. He has played in 41 NHL games, registering 10 career points (5-5-10). Welsh, a 25-year-old Bayfield, Ont., native recorded one assist in five games with Carolina last season and has six NHL career games. The six-foot-three and 210 Union College alumnus generated 26 points (14-12-26) with Charlotte in 2012-13. Both Dalpe and Welsh were due to report to the Canucks on Sunday night. In an email Friday, NFLPA chief DeMaurice Smith said union officials believe agents should "consider the Saints efforts" to push for legislation that would substantially reduce benefits to players who are hurt outside the 17-week regular season, when player salaries are paid. Players receive only per diems during off-season workouts and training camp. Under legislation which has passed the Louisiana House of Representatives and awaits consideration in the state Senate, workers compensation benefits could be based on per diems — rather than the full annual value of a contract — if injuries occurred in the off-season. "We are actively involved in the effort to defeat this bill but we feel it is important for you to consider the Saints efforts given your representation of our players and the advice you would have to give to any free agent player considering an opportunity to play for the Saints," Smith wrote. "Please advise your players of the potential consequences of the Saints efforts should they sign with the Saints." Bill supporters say it would place athletes under the same rules as other Louisiana employees. The Saints have not commented on the legislation since its introduction in the House of Representatives, but quarterback Drew Brees has come out publicly against it. In a written statement distributed by the NFLPA, Brees said the legislation "is not good for Saints players, not good for our team or other sports teams in Louisiana and not good for our state." "The job of legislators in Louisiana is to protect injured workers and fight for theiir workers comp benefits, not find ways to support bills like this one which reduce the workers comp benefits we receive when we get hurt.dddddddddddd There is no financial benefit to the state with this bill, only team management," Brees continued. "Whether we get hurt during the season or in the preseason, it is all the same. It is in preparation to help us win a championship for our community." The legislation, called House Bill 1069, aims to calculate workers compensation benefits for pro athletes based only on recent earnings. The NFLs collective bargaining agreement has a formula that also includes future earnings and is aimed at ensuring that benefits are calculated on the full annual value of a players contract. The bill is sponsored by state Reps. Chris Broadwater, R-Hammond, and Cameron Henry, R-Metairie. Broadwater has said the Saints asked for the bill, which aims to clarify in law that pro athletes cannot be exempt from a state formula that applies to every other Louisiana employee seeking workers compensation benefits after a workplace injury. The NFLPA counters that athletes should not be punished with potentially reduced benefits simply because their salaries are not distributed evenly over a 52-week period. In past years, the same matter has spawned several lawsuits between the Saints and former players — with differing outcomes depending on the venue. A state appeals courts in Jefferson Parish, home of Saints headquarters, has sided with the clubs assertion that players must follow precisely the same formula as other Louisiana employees. However, an appeals court in Orleans Parish, where the Superdome is located, has ruled that the annual value of player contracts should serve as the basis for benefits, regardless of when the injury occurs. cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

On Tuesday, Tim Petrovic was surfing with his kids in Michigan. By late Thursday afternoon, he was leading the RBC Canadian Open. You can be forgiven if both those statements seem a little strange. After all, who goes surfing in Michigan? And who leads the Canadian Open without the benefit of a practice round? Petrovic did just that, putting together a silky round of 64 that tied him for top spot along with Michael Putnam. His round marked the first time hed played Royal Montreals Blue Course and not a bad maiden run. The 47-year-old was sitting on the beach in South Haven, Michigan on Tuesday when his phone rang to tell him he was in the field at the Open, having risen up the alternate list from eighth. Benjamin Alvarado had withdrawn and he was in. So he jumped on a plane Wednesday morning, walked around the back nine on Wednesday afternoon, and teed it up Thursday. “I kind of think it freed me up because I wasnt sure, especially on the front nine,” Petrovic said. “We started on one and I hadnt seen the front nine yet. So you dont look ahead, obviously, and I wasnt really looking ahead on the back. I was playing well, but I just [told myself] keep going through your routine, I was trying to stay in my routine: Hit golf shots, hit driver and get it on the green.” Petrovic opened with a par and then rattled off three birdies and added one more for 31 going out. His back nine was eight pars and an eagle on the par-5 12th hole after two great shots left him a relatively short putt. After playing many years with exempt status, Petrovics schedule has been somewhat unpredictable of late. Hes split his time between the PGA Tour and the Web.com Tour. Three weeks ago, he was in Halifax for the Nova Scotia Open where he tied for 38th. On the PGA Tour, he hasnt made a cut since March, missing the mark in his last five starts. “Its a little tough. Its a little tough,” Petrovic admitted of trying to plan out an itinerary. “I think I was spoiled for my first 10 years. You make your own schedule, you know where youre going. I think this year I pretty much split between the Web and the PGA Tour.” While he has no doubt given his luggage and passport a good workout, hes also managed to put together a solid career with earnings of about $12 million. Thats much better than his one-time job as a pizza delivery man. Petrovic also spent some time playing on the old Canadian Tour, now PGA Tour Canada, back when there was a bit of barnstorming happening. “The last time I was up here was probably in 1990, maybe,” he tried to remember. “We played the Canadian Tour, and I think Todd Hamilton was playing up here, Guy Boros. In fact, we were in Halifax two weeks ago, and the last time I was up there was before they built the bridge to get out to PEI, because I think we were playing a golf tournament at PEI. I think it was called Brudenell? Does that sound right?” It does indeed. And it also sounds, well, almost ancient. Of course Petrovic isnt exactly a kid. He isnt too far off being able to join the Champions Tour. While most of the young players on the PGA Tour will mention Tiger Woods and Jay Z among their favourites, he lists Seve Ballesteros and Jim Morrison of the Doors as his heroes. As for surfing in Michigan, Petrovic admitted that the waves are pretty small and it isnt exactly the Gold Coast of Australia. But you make do with what you have, which is exactly what hes doing right now at Royal Montreal. Authentic Bobby Portis Jersey . TORONTO -- An injury to Spencer Abbott in the second period forced Toronto Marlies coach Steve Spott to move Brandon Kozun to the top line. The promotion paid off as Kozun picked up the insurance maker and the Marlies defeated the reigning Calder Cup champion Grand Rapids Griffins 4-1 on Friday, "It was nice that we could slot him right up there and that was a huge goal because Grand Rapids was coming late," said Spott. "That seemed to quiet them a little bit because the fire power, the ability to turn over pucks in transition, theyre going to come at you hard and that was a big goal by Brandon. "I know he needed it personally, its good for his confidence and it was a timely goal for our team." Kozun restored Torontos two-goal lead at 12:05 of the third period, beating Mrazek stick-side for his 13th of the season. The goal was Kozuns third and seventh point in eight games since he was acquired from the Manchester Monarchs. "Well when (injuries) happen, everyones got to step up their game, play together as a team, I think this team has been doing it all year and youve got to play as a team to beat a team like that," said Kozun. "Theyre obviously the reigning champions and everyone came to play tonight and it was a good one. T.J. Brennan, Josh Leivo and Jerry DAmigo had the other goals for the Marlies, who won for the third time in four games. The win moves Toronto (28-15-4) two points back of the second-place Griffins (29-15-4) in the AHLs Western Conference. Landon Ferraro replied for Grand Rapids, which has just one win in the last five games. Grand Rapids out-shot Toronto 34-12 in the final 40 minutes, but could not get another one past Drew MacIntyre, who made 41 saves for his league-leading 21st win of the season. Petr Mrazek made 23 saves for the Griffins. "Youre playing the reigning Calder Cup champions and you know theyre going to come, youre up two goals, you lose arguably your best forward in Spencer Abbott and a great shutdown player in Tyler Biggs so there is absolutely nothing left in the tank," said Spott. "We have to go easy (Saturday) and weve got to find a way to, with our tank almost on E, to get another 60 minutes out of these guys on Sunday. Theres not a lot left." Brennan opened the scoring with his 20th goal of the season on the power play at 1:17 of the second period, beating Mrazek with a wrist shot from the top of the faceoff circle. With the goal, Brennan became the first defenceman to score 20 goals in a single season since Johnny Boychuck did it with the Providence Bruins in the 2008-2009 season. The Marlies added to their lead at 4:01 of the period when Leivo stepped out of the corner and beat Mrazek from the slot for his 10th. Ferraro pulled the Griffins to within one as he one-timed a Jeff Hoggan pass past MacIntyre at 8:20 of the second period DAmigo added an empty netter for his 10th of the season with 1:09 remaining. In addition to Abbott, who left the game with a lower body injury, the Marlies also lost forward Biggs. Spott said he would have a better idea on the condition of both players Saturday. Toronto was already without forward Sam Carrick, who sustained an upper body injury in Wednesdays shootout win over the San Antonio Rampage. WINNIPEG -- Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane is returning to the lineup Monday night, but neither the player nor coach Paul Maurice shed any light on why Kane rode the bench in Toronto on the weekend. It wasnt his first time as a healthy scratch. Former coach Claude Noel also benched the left winger. But Kane and Maurice kept the reasons for this one to themselves. Maurice said the Jets will be without forwards Dustin Byfuglien and Andrew Ladd when they meet the Minnesota Wild Monday night, and that Byfuglien is out for the rest of the season with a torn muscle. SEATTLE -- Kekutah Manneh picked quite a time to score his first professional hat trick. The 18-year-old rookie scored three goals to lift the Vancouver Whitecaps to a 4-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders on Wednesday, keeping his teams slim playoff hopes alive. He also became the youngest player in MLS history to score three goals in a game. "Im more nervous in this interview than I was in the game," Manneh said. "This is the type of games that every player wants to play in. This is the kind of game we dream to play in. To play in front of this crowd is amazing. All we can do is get excited and play the game." Manneh was especially efficient for Vancouver (12-11-9), scoring on all three of the shots that he put on frame. He had come into the game with just three previous starts and 529 minutes in which he had managed to score two goals and register three assists. "Phenomenal game and a great night for Whitecaps fans to remember for a long time," Whitecaps manager Martin Rennie said. "We played a great game tonight. We played some great stuff, kept good possession of the ball, moved the ball well in a tough environment to come to against our biggest rival. Im really proud of the players. We worked extremely hard and took our chances when they came." All three of Mannehs goals came after he was able to slip behind the defence. The first was in the 12th minute, when Daigo Kobayashi intercepted Jhon Kennedy Hurtados clearance attempt and volleyed it to Manneh. With just one defender to beat, Manneh got behind the defence and poked it past Sounders goalkeeper Michael Gspurning. Manneh added another in the 42nd minute, catching the Sounders defence on a counter-strike. Young-Pyo Lee started it with a pass along the sideline to Camilo Sanvezzo, who back-heeled it to Manneh. Again with just a single defender to beat, Manneh pushed ahead and beat Gspurning with a low shot. The capper came in the 53rd minute after Manneh worked a give-and-go with Kobayashi at the top of the penalty area. Manneh got free on goal and put his shot between Gspurnings legs for the first hat trick in the Whitecaps MLS history. "We joked before that youre never exactly sure what youre going to get with an 18-year-old," Rennie said. "But hes unbelievably talented. ... With younger players, youre not always going to get that consistent level of performance but we did talk about it before that if he showed up he could make a huge impact on the game and he did." Nigel Reo-Coker added his first goal of the season in the 82nd minute to cap the scoring on a poor effort by Gspurning. Seattles lone goal came in the 69th minute from Mauro Rosales. The win moved the Whitecaps to within three points of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. They will have to win their final two games against the Colorado Rapids -- away and at home -- in order to have any chance of qualifying for a second straight year. Theyll also need the San Jose Earthquakes drop at least two points in their final two matches. Seattle (15-10-6) meanwhile is still one point back of Real Salt Lake for the top spot in the Western Conference. The Whitecaps at least have some serious momentum. "We needed that tonight," Rennie said. "These players, I dont think people really believe in them as much as they should. I think the most important thing is the players are really believing in themselves. ... "Tonight was a really good night for us and well enjoy that. Then we have to get focused on the next one." WOLFSBURG, Germany -- Wolfsburg signed Brazil midfielder Luiz Gustavo from Bundesliga rival Bayern Munich on Friday. The 26-year-old Luiz Gustavo signed a deal through to 2018, the Volkswagen-backed club announced. "There is no question that he makes us better," Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking said. "We want to move back toward Europe with Wolfsburg, and for this we need players like Luiz Gustavo." Both clubs agreed not to disclose the transfer fee. German media reported that Wolfsburg was paying between 15 and 20 million euros ($20 and $27 million) for the Brazilian. "I have professional and personal reasons to want to go away," Luiz Gustavo said before Brazils 1-0 defeat in Switzerland on Wednesday. The player faced a struggle for regular playing time at Bayern, which has further reinforced its star-studded midfield under new coach Pep Guardiola. He reportedly was also a target for clubs in England, Italy and Russia. "Wolfsburg wanted me from the beginning. Thats one of the reasons Im here," Luiz Gustavo said at his presentation. "I am very happy to have made this decision and to be here now. Its like a new life for me and Ill give everything for Wolfsburg," the Brazilian said. "Im really looking forward to the challenge. Wolfsburg is a top club with a great concept and Im also happy to be able to stay in Germany. I feel very comfortable here." Wolfsburg won the Bundesliga title in 2009 but has since struggled to recreate that form. Last season, it finished 11th in the 18-team top division. Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge thanked Luiz Gustavo for his two and a half years at the club. "He won many friends in our club with his calm, always friendly and very professional manner. You could always rely on Luiz Gustavo and he played his part in Bayerns treble last season," Rummenigge said. Luiz Gustavo joined Hoffenheim from Clube de Regatas Brasil in 2007, and Bayern paid 17 million euros ($23 million) for the Brazilian in January 2011. He scored six goals and set up three more in 64 league games for the side. Luiz Gustavo joins up with compatriots Diego and Naldo at Wolfsburg, and could make his debut against Schalke on Saturday. "I can imagine that hell be in the starting line-up. Hes in the squad in any case," Hecking said. Luiz Gustavo has played 11 games for Brazil. Brewers Travis Shaw Jersey . (SportsNetwork.com) - Tom Brady had the same bewildered look on his face as he did seven years ago in Glendale, Arizona. It almost happened again. Except this time it didnt. Trailing 28-24 with just over a minute remaining in Super Bowl XLIX, Jermaine Kearses miraculous 33-yard catch set the Seattle Seahawks up with a 1st-and- goal at the Patriots 5-yard line. Russell Wilson lofted a jump-ball pass along the right sideline and New England rookie cornerback Malcolm Butler leapt and tipped the ball into the air with his left hand. The fluttering pass came down and bounced right into Kearses lap as he slid on his back. He bobbled it twice while spinning on his back and finally corralled it on the third attempt. I couldnt believe it, Brady said of the catch during the Lombardi Trophy presentation. It was the David Tyree helmet catch all over again, but Butler didnt hang his head. He would turn deflation into complete euphoria just two plays later. After Marshawn Lynch barreled for four yards to the 1, Seattle elected to throw the ball on second down. Butler immediately broke on Wilsons slant toss intended for Ricardo Lockette and intercepted it to seal New Englands victory. Redemption. And a joyous Brady couldnt contain himself, raising his arms triumphantly and jumping up and down continuously on the Patriots sideline. Unbelievable play by Malcolm, Brady said. We needed a great play at the end and we got it. An unbelievable play it was, especially for an undrafted 24-year-old rookie out of West Alabama. Butler had just three passes defensed and 15 tackles in 11 games during his rookie campaign. I just had a vision I was going to make a play and it came true, Butler said. Im just blessed, I cant explain it right now. Seven years ago in Super Bowl XLII, Tyrees life changed forever in the Valley of the Sun when he hauled in Eli Mannings 32-yard desperation downfield heave on a 3rd-and-5 with 59 seconds remaining. He pinned the ball against the top of his helmet as he was being tackled by Patriots safety Rodney Harrison. The play set up Mannings go-ahead 13-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress four snaps later, sealing the New York Giants improbable 17-14 upset of the then-undefeated Patriots. New England wouldnt have been in a position to win its fourth Super Bowl in franchise history -- and first since 2004 -- had Brady not led his team down the field for the go-ahead score a possession prior to the Butler pick. Brady, who finished 37-of-50 for 328 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions, was 8-of-8 for 65 yards on the decisive march. He connected with Julian Edelman from three yards out to put the Patriots in front with 2:02 remaining. It was the 37-year-olds 13th career Super Bowl touchdown pass, setting a new benchmark that was previously held by his boyhood idol Joe Montana, who tossed 11 in Super Bowls. Brady also tied Montana and Terry Bradshaw with his fourth Super Bowl win. He was asked after the game if hes the greatest ever to play the quarterback position. I never put myself in those discussions, thats not how I think, Brady said. Fair enough, but its becoming hard to make a case against him. Giants Derek Law Jersey . Darrun Hilliard scored 16 points, JayVaughn Pinkston added 13 and the Wildcats beat Milwaukee 73-53 on Thursday night in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Villanova (29-4), the No. 2 seed in the East Region, will play seventh-seeded Connecticut (27-8) in the third round Saturday. The Huskies held off Saint Josephs 89-81 in overtime. No. 15 seed Milwaukee (21-14), the surprise champion of the Horizon League, made it a game all the way, leading much of the first half before fading late. Villanova was eager to get back on the court after being upset last week by Seton Hall in the Big East quarterfinals, but the effect of that loss seemed to linger. A 14-point run spanning halftime gave the Wildcats a nine-point lead early in the second half and they held on. Hilliards long 3-pointer from the top of the key with 8:10 left gave them a 53-42 advantage, and the Panthers couldnt recover. James Bell had 12 points for Villanova on 5-of-14 shooting and missed all eight 3s he attempted. Kris Jenkins and Josh Hart each scored 11. Austin Arians had 17 points to lead Milwaukee and Matt Tiby scored 10. Jordan Aaron, Milwaukees leading scorer, finished with six points, all in the second half, on 1-of-15 shooting. Kyle Kelm, second in scoring, had eight points, all after the break. The Panthers rags-to-riches march into the tourney ended, but not without a fight. Villanova outscored Milwaukee 46-20 in the paint and had 19 fast-break points to overcome a woeful 4-for-23 shooting performance from behind the arc. After struggling mightily, Villanova scored the final nine points of the first half and the first five of the second. Pinkstons three-point play and follow gave Villanova a 32-23 lead. Kelms first basket of the game, a layup off the glass, stopped a scoreless skid that had lasted more than 6 minutes and cut the lead to seven. After Aaron missed an open 3, Hart countered with a three-point play for Villanova and Jenkins followed with a 3 in transition after blocking a shot by JeVon Lyle at the other end. That gave the Wildcats a 42-33 lead midway through the half. Villanova extended the margin to 55-44 on Harts layup with 7:19 left, and the Panthers never got closer than nine the rest of the way. Milwaukee closed the seaason with five straight wins, including a surprising overtime win over preseason favourite Green Bay in the Horizon Conference tournament, to surpass the 20-win plateau.dddddddddddd Not bad for a team that finished 8-24 a year ago. Milwaukees 13-win increase was the best year-to-year improvement in the country, and the Panthers were the only team in the NCAA tournament that finished last in its league a year ago. They showed they belonged on the big stage, too, leading a team ranked in the top 10 for much of the first half. Both defences swarmed right from the opening tip. The Panthers missed their first six shots, getting one of them blocked, and fell behind 6-0. Even high attempts off the glass on drives misfired as the Wildcats tried to set the tone early despite faltering from the field. Halfway through the first half, Villanova led 10-8, the teams were a combined 6 for 29, and the Wildcats were scoreless on five tries from behind the arc. Clearly, the Panthers werent intimidated by the Big East regular-season champions, and J.J. Panoske hit an open 3 from the left wing to give Milwaukee a surprising 13-10 lead with 8 minutes left in the period. The Panthers play in the Wisconsin style that coach Bo Ryan brought to Milwaukee before he took over the Badgers, whipping the ball around looking for the open man. After Bells steal and slam gave Nova a 16-15 lead, a wide-open Arians hit consecutive 3-pointers from the right side for a 21-16 lead with 4:52 left as the Panthers fans cheered. The Wildcats finally settled down, holding the Panthers scoreless for the final 4:05 of the period. Hilliards three-point play tied it at 23, and a driving layup by Bell and a slam dunk by Pinkston put Villanova back on top. Villanova went into the break with a 27-23 lead despite missing all 12 attempts from behind the arc, six by Bell. Villanova averaged nine 3s per game this season and shot 36.1 per cent from long range, but the Wildcats allowed opponents to hit 35.4 per cent of their 3-pointers and the Panthers took advantage, hitting five before the break to stay in the game. Milwaukee relies a lot on Aaron, its leading scorer at 15 points per game. He had four assists and four rebounds but failed to score in the first half, missing seven shots. Kelm, averaging 12.6 points, also went scoreless. cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City guard Russell Westbrook is fine after leaving Fridays game against Toronto in the third quarter with what appeared to be an injury to his surgically repaired right knee. A Thunder spokesman said the three-time All-Star had an MRI and a clinical exam Saturday, and team doctors said there were no issues after Torontos Kyle Lowry inadvertently jumped into Westbrook near the sideline with 7:37 left in the third quarter Friday night. Westbrook has been playing restricted minutes since his return in February from his most recent surgery. After the contact with Lowry, Westbrook immediately turned and called timeout and bent over in pain. He hobbled along the sideline and was tended to briefly by a trainer before walking off the court with help from centre Hasheem Thabeet. "Im really excited to be back in Carolina," Gano said. "It is where my family and I wanted to be. I love the organization and feel this is the best place for me." The 26-year-old Gano is coming off a successful season, converting 24 of 27 field goal attempts while helping the team to a 12-4 record and the NFC South title. He set a franchise record and tied for the NFL lead with six made field goals from 50 yards or more. He was the only NFL kicker with three or more attempts from 50 yards or more without a miss from that distance. "The special teams unit was a large part of our success last year and we are excited to keep Graham as a part of our team," Panthers coach Ron Rivera said in a news release. "Graham has shown range and accuracy in his field goal kicking, and his strong leg has been a weapon for us on kickoffs." Of his 82 kickoffs, 76 reached the end zone, including 63 for touchbacks, the highest percentage in the NFL since 1994. A five-year NFL veteran, Gano spent his first thhree seasons with the Washington Redskins.dddddddddddd He has converted 92 of 118 field goal attempts in his career. Gano tied the NFL record for most overtime field goals in a season with three in 2010, a mark previously accomplished by John Kasay for Carolina in 2003 and Jason Hanson for Detroit in 1994. (SportsNetwork.com) - With apologies to Paul Revere and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, winning is most certainly a two if by land proposition for the modern-day Kansas City Chiefs. The 2014 Chiefs have lived and died based on the fortunes of running backs Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis, whove combined for 1,388 yards on the ground and scored 21 of the teams 36 touchdowns. Itll be the same scenario for Week 16, when Kansas City visits Pittsburgh, whose run defense has allowed 183 yards and one score in its last two games. Davis had a pair of touchdowns in the Chiefs 31-13 defeat of Oakland last week, while Charles is listed probable to face the Steelers after dinging up an ankle and undergoing a concussion test after a hard hit. Every game from here forward is a playoff game. Were taking that mindset into every game, Davis said. For me, its just a dream to be in the NFL. To make the big plays and help this team win is just huge all around. Meanwhile, the drought continues for the Chiefs wide receivers, whove now gone 17 games across two seasons without a touchdown, matching Denver (1971-72) and Cleveland (2008-09) for the longest streaks since the AFL-NFL merger. Quarterback Alex Smith has 18 TD throws, including five each to Charles and tight end Travis Kelce and four to another tight end, Anthony Fasano. The two Browns teams involved in Clevelands streak were a combined 9-23, while the two Broncos teams were 9-18-1. The fact that theyre still winning games and havent been able to have passing touchdowns like that, it shows that theyre a very resourceful team, Steelers linebacker Arthur Moats said. Both Pittsburgh and Kansas City will need some success this week to stay playoff relevant. The Steelers, at 9-5, are tied for second with Baltimore in a competitively muddled AFC North, each sitting a half-game behind Cincinnati. The Bengals play Monday night against Denver - which has already clinched the AFC West ahead of the Chiefs - while Baltimore heads to Houston. Pittsburgh finishes the regular season with Cincinnati next weekend. The Steelers beat the Bengals, 42-21, in Week 14, then came back and won at Atlanta, 27-20, last Sunday. A win against the Chiefs and Pittsburgh will clinch at least a wild-card berth. The last couple of games have been playoff games for us, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said. Weve had to take that approach and that mindset because of how important every game was where we were record wise, seed-wise whatever you want to call it. Weve kind of had that mentality for the last couple of weeks that its time to get hot and play our best football. So were just going to continue to try to do that. Kansas City was in prime playoff position about a month ago, before a three- game losing skid that was only halted by the win against the Raiders. The Chiefs are now among a gaggle of AFC teams at 8-6 or better and will finish the season against another, San Diego, next weekend. Every game is playoff mode, Charles said. Every game, youve got to come with it. Pittsburghs offense have been the leagues most prolific through 14 games, thanks to an eight-game stretch in which its averaged 424.9 yards and 33.1 points. The Steelers are 6-2 during that run. Were trying to stack wins, cornerback William Gay said. Playing against good opponents and just putting everything on the line. The driving force has been the trio of Roethlisberger, running back LeVeon Bell and wide receiver Antonio Brown. Roethlisberger has already exceeded 4,400 passing yards and hes completed a career-best 67.2 percent of his passes. His 29 touchdowns are three shy of his high watermark, set in 2007. Browns 115 catches are tops in the NFL and a franchise record for a single season. Hes two yards from surpassing the 1,499-yard franchise record he established last year, and one more TD catch will make him the fourth Pittsburgh receiver to haul in 12 in a season, joining Hines Ward (2002), Louis Lipps (1985) and Buddy Dial (1961). Bell has 76 catches of his own, far exceeding the previous team best by a running back - 51 by John L. Williams in 1994. His 2,043 yards from scrimmage are also a franchise record. Bettering the numbers wont be a cake walk against the Chiefs, whose pass defense is No. 2 in the league with an average allowance of 199.2 pass yards per week. Its a good defense. We have to look at a lot more film because they get after the passer (and are) good in the secondary, Roethlisberger said. This is going to be one of our toughest tasks of the year. WHAT TO WATCH FOR A Multi-Toned Bell Pittsburghs Week 15 foe, Atlanta, came in with an all-in strategy to stop the run, and they were successful in limiting Bell to just 47 yards on 20 rushes. Problem is, the run is not the only thing with which Bell can hurt a defense. He caught five passes for 72 yards - including a 44-yard catch and run - and will be a vital element regardless on which way the Chiefs attack. Disrupt Big Bens Timing The Steelers have seen Roethlisberger sacked 32 times in 14 games, which doesnt sound terrific, but is still on pace to be Bens lowest number for a season in which he started at least 14 games. Keeping that pace could be an issue, however, if the leagues co-leader in sacks, Justin Houston, gets clear to add to his 17. He and fellow outside linebacker Tamba Hali have 23 combined. OVERALL ANALYSIS Its probably not a preview of the AFC Championship Game. In fact, theres a far better chance that the team that loses this game wont even make the playoffs at all. What it is, though, is a meeting of two teams with significant talent on both sides of the ball. The difference, it seems, comes in the fact that the Steelers have more Plan Bs when the Plan As dont work. Thats whatll matter here. It was an interesting question we discussed on air for a brief time among us CFL panel people and discussed in length off air. Montreal beat Ottawa 20-10 to start Week 11 and the similarities are profound yet common. Both teams are trying to win while also trying to find good players that you want to sign to extended contracts. For Ottawa, it is about finding and developing top 24 starters on offense and defense. With Montreal, it is about only one player - a quarterback. Jonathan Crompton was good against Ottawa last week but not great. He had 245 yards, completing 60 per cent, no interceptions and a touchdown. Thats good but not great. When you consider there are 117 Division 1 schools that play football in the United States, 124 Division 2 schools, 300 Division 3 schools and approximately 30 CIS schools, the initial response is it must be easy to find players. Every one of those schools has at least 10 players of good ability that would love to play football for money. And they do, but finding the best ones that can play is an odyssey of difficulty in a world all its own. All those schools do have a quarterback of some talent and you would think that there is a surplus. They do, and there isnt. To answer the question: What is harder to find, 24 starters or a really good quarterback, I think it is the quarterback. His quality value may outshine 23 other players. In Saskatchewan, the Riders have moved to 7-2 and looked good in the process. Going into last weeks game against Winnipeg, they ran 402 plays -- 213 were pass plays and 189 were run plays. At the end of the 35-30 win, they totaled 239 pass plays and 215 run plays this season. Thats right, in the Winnipeg game they had 26 run plays and 26 pass plays. Remarkable balance in run/pass ratio and it goes a long way to keeping a defense completely off balance. Saskatchewan still has to play Calgary twice - on October 3 at home and on October 24 in Calgary - and they have Edmonton three times, with the last one at home on the last game of the year.ddddddddddddThose five are going to determine first place in the West. The final drive by Saskatchewan in Sundays game against the Bombers was impressive. They were on their own 35 yard line, 2:58 to go and down 30-28. Nine plays later, they are up by five and ran the ball for 62 of the 75 yards. That is impressive, as Saskatchewan took control and made it happen. In Hamilton, there were three stories. First, the new stadium, which by everyone I have talked to, was a successful debut in all ways conceivable. Second was quarterback Zach Collaros. Did he find his personal magic? I thought so. He was 21-of-38 for 71 per cent, one touchdown and no interceptions. Considering the absence of playing time and coming off a concussion, that is magic to me. The third story is: Can this change a season for Hamilton? New empowering home, quarterback back and an East Division that is wide open. Hamilton does visit Montreal next so that is focus number one, but their last five games are all in the East so in a very real way their future in playoff opportunity may be right there for the taking from October 10 on. Instead of losing a close game, they won one with six against the East, four against the West. It can still be a good season in Hamilton and at Tim Hortons Field. Final game of Week 11 saw Calgary beat Edmonton 28-13. The Stampeders have now won the head-to-head series, winning the first game 26-22 back on July 24. After this weeks game on Saturday, that is it for head-to-head, so winning the season series is the best end of season tiebreaker there is. It will be tougher this Saturday night, as Edmonton will feel the urgency and should have Mike Rielly back. Matt Nichols is good but Mike Reilly can be great. And finally; now every team has their stadium that is traditional over time or brand new or on its way to being brand new. Come on, Toronto! Something has to give in the near or soon-to-be near future. Without a good home field or a good home practice environment, you just cant play the way you need to create a winning team. LONDON -- Pressure in football takes a toll on managers in different ways. For Arsene Wenger, its meant less time for the prayers that were such a big part of his childhood. The Arsenal manager is currently trying to end a trophy drought stretching back to 2005 that has sorely tested the patience of the clubs fans. Although the task has not shaken his religious beliefs, its not been without its consequences either. "I prayed a lot when I was a kid because I was educated in a Catholic area," Wenger said in an interview with The Associated Press. "Religion was very strong to us, to ask the priest if I can play on Sunday afternoon ... now I am a bit less (religious) because when you are under pressure you only think of our game. How can I win the next game? And you try to be a bit more pragmatic." The religious upbringing in eastern France, has left Wenger with a principled outlook that he has tried to uphold in his football career. "Belief is important, and I am forever grateful for the values my religion has given," he said. "And basically if you analyze it, all the religions spread good values and positive values, and that is important that you find that in our sport." The 63-year-old Frenchman was speaking on a visit to Londons Jewish Museum surrounded by an exhibition exploring the role of British Jews in football: Football, fans and faith. Wenger talks fondly about how "in every religious community sport is an occasion for people to get together and of course defend the values." For some in football, in an era of rapidly expanding pay packets for players and ticket prices for fans, the sport can seem to have lost its soul. Wenger is not so disconsolate. "Sometimes you see that professional football has moved a little bit away from very, very important values that have existed at the start of the game," he said. "The values that are important in the game today are the same (as always)," Wenger said. "It is a respect for others. It is learning to lose. It is learning to cope with pressure. It is learning to cope with a team sport. So that is exactly the same. Of course the environment is completely different. Why? Because of professionalism and the money." With an economics degree and as a long-time advocate of greater financial responsibility in football, Wenger has tried to adopt what he calls a "socialist model" for Arsenals wage bill. That becomes harder when the need the deliver success saw Wenger break Arsenals transfer record last month to sign Mesut Ozil for 50 million euros ($66 million). Retaining the best talent in the squad also requires salaries to rise in turn. "I always say to the players, Forget the money," Wenger said. "What is important is how well you play together, what you share together is much more important. The money is only a consequence of your experience. The real experience is the game. "And I see that with many players who have stopped their careers. Its not the money they miss -- because they have money. Its that kind of experience. To share the values of our sport, to share the values of being together. And achieving something together." Wenger built his reputation in England on unearthing talented foreign prospects and turning them into Premier League stars. Not everyone was impressed. Selecting an entire match-day squad without an Englishman for the first time in Arsenals history in 2005 helped stir a debate over foreign players that continues to this day. Only this week one of Wengers leading players, Jack Wilshere, expressed unease at calls for young foreign-born players to be naturalized and become eligible to play for England. For Wenger, its a complex issue in a world where national identity has become increasingly blurred. "We live in a global world," Wenger pointed out. "I have players who have three different nationalities. And at the end of the day I ask them, Where do you really feel you belong? And that is for me where you are from." "I have boys who have come from Africa. Many immigrants now come to Europe, they stay four or five years in one country, then they move to another country and they have three different passports," he said. "At the end of the day, I believe you are from the country where you feel the most comfortable with the culture of the country." Wenger never reached a high enough standard as a player to be called up by his country. Success has instead come from the dugout, although his teams last trophy was the 2005 FA Cup -- and it hasnt won the Premier League since 2004. This season started with jeers at the Emirates Stadium when Aston Villa inflicted a defeat that prompted questions about how long Wenger would remain in a job he has held since 1996. However, since that opening day setback, Arsenal has reeled off 10 successive victories in all competitions before drawing a West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. His side entered this two-week international break at the top of the Premier League. There is no gloating, though, at proving wrong the fans who seemed to lose faith in him. "Its not a personal battle," he said. "My desire is I love to win. I love to do well. I just feel I am happy if I can give some pleasure and happiness to people who love Arsenal. That is my main target. When I dont achieve that I am very disappointed." Plucked from the relative obscurity of Grampus Eight in Nagoya, Japan, Wenger has delivered three Premier League titles and four FA Cups over his 17-year reign. As for the future, its one he clearly envisages in his adopted homeland. "I can see the rest of my life in England, why not?" Wenger said as the interview drew to a close. "I feel comfortable in this country because we share a common passion for football and as well I am very thankful for this country for having accepted me and giving me a chance," he added. "I am happy on the football pitch." And he shows no desire yet to leave it. Rockies German Marquez Jersey ." According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, billionaire Bill Foley, the man behind the push for an NHL team in Las Vegas, is hoping that at least 10, 000 tickets will be sold. Season ticket deposits will range from $150 to $900. Foley has said that he already has a lease agreement with MGM Resorts and AEG for a 20, 000 seat arena that is currently under construction. He has joined with the Maloof family, the ex-Sacramento Kings owners, and others to form the Las Vegas Founding 50.dddddddddddd The group also includes boxer Floyd Mayweather and poker player Daniel Negreanu, who are each pledging to sell 60 season tickets. Seattle and Quebec City have been mentioned with Las Vegas as possible expansion cities, however the league has yet to commit to adding any more teams. A franchise in Las Vegas could help solve the current conference imbalance, which features 16 teams in the East and only 14 in the West. cheap falcons jerseys cheap ravens jerseys cheap bills jerseys cheap bears jerseys cheap bengals jerseys cheap cowboys jerseys cheap lions jerseys cheap texans jerseys cheap colts jerseys cheap jaguars jerseys cheap chiefs jerseys cheap rams jerseys cheap dolphins jerseys cheap vikings jerseys cheap saints jerseys cheap giants jerseys cheap jets jerseys cheap eagles jerseys cheap steelers jerseys cheap 49ers jerseys ' ' '

MINNEAPOLIS -- Hours after trading Vidal Nuno to Arizona for Brandon McCarthy and cutting outfielder Alfonso Soriano, the New York Yankees took a nine-run lead by the fourth inning and seemed set for a laugher at Target Field. The game ended with the potential go-ahead run at the plate. Jacoby Ellsbury homered, doubled and drove in four runs as Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins 9-7 Sunday after their roster shakeup and moved back above .500 at 44-43. "Sometimes you cant really pinpoint it, but we like where were at right now," Ellsbury said. "Hopefully keep it rolling." Derek Jeter and Ichiro Suzuki each had three hits for the Yankees, who have won 14 of 18 overall at Target Field. Jeters ninth-inning single made him the eighth player to reach 3,400 hits. "We pay a little bit of attention, but I dont think he pays too close attention to it," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Obviously, hes going to end up way up there in record books. He pays more attention to wins, and thats what we worry about." New York took three of four from the Twins after losing nine of its previous 11. The 38-year-old Soriano is in the final year of a $136 million, eight-year contract he signed with the Chicago Cubs, who traded him last summer to the Yankees, where he began his big league career. He was hitting .221 this season with six homers and 23 RBIs in 67 games. New York has 10 days to trade Soriano or place him on unconditional waivers. "Hes a guy thats used to playing every day," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "Wasnt every day for him. Maybe it was harder for him to get going, not sure. Im sure hes extremely disappointed." New York catcher Brian McCann returned to the lineup after missing two games because of a sore foot and doubled home Jeter in the first. Ellsburys three-run homer off Ricky Nolasco (5-7) capped a four-run burst in the second that made it 6-0. Hiroki Kuroda (6-6) allowed four runs and seven hits in 5 2-3 innings, his poorest outing since mid-June. Minnesotta closed with four runs in the fourth, and one in each of the last three innings.dddddddddddd After Oswaldo Arcias two-out RBI single pulled the Twins within two runs and left runners at the corners, David Robertson got Kurt Suzuki to hit a grounder to shortstop, where Jeter threw to second baseman Brian Roberts for the final out. Robertson got his 21st save in 23 chances. Jeter drove in two runs in his last scheduled game at Minnesota, although hes expected back later this month for the All-Star game. Nolasco lasted a season-low two innings as Minnesota lost for the 10th time in 13 games. "They hit everything he threw up there," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "We got to go better than that. He did nothing for us today. He didnt give us a chance." Trevor Plouffe had an RBI double in the fourth and Chris Colabello followed with a two-run homer, his second home run in three games since his recall from the minors. Plouffe added a solo home run in the eighth. "Cant keep getting behind like this. It just gets back to that," Gardenhire said. "Its the starting pitching. Its not about anything other than that. Weve been struggling scoring runs. We finally put some on the board. But you start a game 6-0, thats no way to play baseball." As one AL East rival exits the Bronx, another enters a new series at Yankee Stadium. This time the Tampa Bay Rays take a turn against the New York Yankees Monday in the opener of a three-game set. The Yankees are 6-6 in a stretch of 15 consecutive games against division opponents and lost their third straight series this weekend versus the despised Boston Red Sox. You can watch the game live on TSN and TSN GO at 7pm et/4pm pt. Boston needed a ninth-inning home run to beat the Yankees on Saturday, then closed the series with Sunday nights 8-5 victory. Yankees starter Chase Whitley struggled to the tune of five runs and eight hits in four innings for New York, losers in six of the past eight games. Mark Teixeira and Carlos Beltran each hit solo homers in defeat. "I always believe that when you play against teams that are in your division, those are series that youve got to win," said Beltran, who has been dealing with soreness in his forearm and had three hits. "We missed this one." Teixeira has homered in four of his last eight games and has hit safely in 14 of the previous 17 contests. New York is still just two games off the AL East lead. David Phelps tries to pitch the Yankees back to respectability when he toes the rubber Monday night. Phelps is 2-0 in his last three starts and did not figure into the decision of a 7-6 loss at Toronto last Tuesday, as he permitted six runs and eight hits in five innings. Phelps has allowed 15 runs in his last four starts and is 3-4 with a 4.35 earned run average this season. The right-hander has faced Tampa Bay eight times (4 starts) in his career and is 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA. Tampa Bay has been playing better baseball of late, but the club is still last in the division at 10 games off the pace. The Rays opened an 11-game road trip by taking three of four games against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards, and won the series with Sundays 12-7 offensive outburst. Kevin Kiermaier hit a solo home run and Logan Forsythe added a two-run shot during a seven-run seventh inning for the Rays, who have won six of their last nine games. Matt Joyce had a big game by going 5-for-6 with two homers, three runs scored and four RBI. Joyce matched a Rays single-game record with five hits and 12 total bases. His shot in the third inning ended a drought of 124 at-bats without a homer. "You really dont have too many days like that," Joyce said. "Its nice to have one of those days and enjoy it." Ben Zobrist also went deep and recorded three hits, two RBI and two runs scored in the win. Rays starting pitcher Alex Cobb picked up the win and was reached for four runs (3 earned) in five innings. The Rays have won five of their last seven road games and will also visit Detroit for four games on this road trip. They are 16-24 as the guest. Tampa Bay has scored at least five runs in 12 of the last 18 games, going 11-7 in that stretch. Chris Archer hopes to get some more of that run support when he takes the mound in the Bronx. The Rays have scored exactly five runs in each of Archers last two starts, including a 6-5 loss to Pittsburgh last Tuesday. Archer fell to 1-3 in his last four decisions after giving up five runs -- four earned -- in seven innings of work. Archer, who is 4-5 with a 3.29 ERA and has thrown six-plus innings six times in the past seven appearances, will put his unblemished mark against the Yankees on the line Monday. He has won all four of his starts in this series and has a 1.26 ERA across 28 2/3 innings. The Rays have won four of seven meetings with the Yankees this season and took two of three matchups in the Bronx from May 2-4. Pirates Steven Brault Jersey . PHOENIX -- Add a dramatic ninth-inning moment to whats looking more and more like a breakout season for A.J. Pollock. The young centre fielder, in his second full big league season, hit a two-out, two-run homer on the first pitch he saw in the ninth to give the Arizona Diamondbacks a 7-5 victory over the San Diego Padres on Monday night. "We were standing there and we were saying Lets walk them off, lets walk them off," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said, "and he crushed the ball." It was the first game-ending homer of Pollocks career. "A really cool feeling," Pollock said. "Thats what you do. You come in here every day and put a lot of swings in the cages and you work hard and its really cool when you actually get up there when the team needs you in late innings and be able to win a game." Pollock, hitless in his first 13 at-bats this season, went 3 for 5 to bring his season average to .296. In his last 26 games, Pollock is batting .341 (31 for 91) with five doubles, four homers and 11 RBIs. "Hes just super-talented," teammate Cody Ross said. "Hes got all the tools to be a great player and you can see that hes getting comfortable." With their fifth loss in seven games, the Padres are just 2 1/2 games ahead of last-place Arizona in the NL West. Cliff Pennington was hit by a pitch and pinch-hitter Eric Chavez hit into a fielders choice ahead of Pollocks soaring homer to centre off Kevin Quackenbush (0-1). Pollock said the pitch "was probably a little out of the zone, but I just wanted to be aggressive." Yonder Alonso homered and Everth Cabrera launched a three-run shot off Arizona starter Brandon McCarthy in the fifth inning to give San Diego a 4-2 lead. Martin Prado doubled in a run and singled for the Diamondbacks, just back from a 2-4 road trip and opening a seven-game home stand. Brad Ziegler (1-1) pitched two scoreless innings to get the win. "Great game, no doubt about that," Padres manager Bud Black said. "High intensity on both ends. We got back in the game after two nothing with a big inning. They bouncced back, we bounced back with a home run.dddddddddddd ... They got the last at-bat and put a good swing on a high fastball. " The Diamondbacks went up 2-0 in the second when Prado singled softly up the middle and Ross reached on a bloop hit to short right. With two outs, Pennington singled off third baseman Chase Headleys glove to bring in one run, and another scored when centre fielder Alexi Amarista didnt pick up the ball cleanly. McCarthy blanked the Padres through four, but just after the Chase Field roof opened Alonso hit the first pitch of the fifth inning into the swimming pool area in right. After two outs, Amarista and Tyson Ross singled, and Cabrera homered just inside the right field foul pole. Ross, San Diegos starter, couldnt hold the lead, facing five batters without an out in Arizonas three-run sixth. Pollock singled, then Gerardo Parra reached on a bunt. Paul Goldschmidt singled in a run, Miguel Montero singled home another and Prado barely missed a home run with a double into the cranny next to the Arizona bullpen, putting the Diamondbacks ahead 5-4 and ending Ross night. The lead didnt last long. McCarthy retired the first two in the seventh but was yanked after pinch-hitter Tommy Medica doubled. Lefty Joe Thatcher came on and allowed an RBI double to Cabrera and it was 5-5. Each manager challenged a call and both were rejected. Black challenged a call in the fourth when Seth Smith tried to stretch a double to a triple and was called out on an extremely close play. Gibson challenged a safe call on an attempted pickoff of Headley in the eighth. With two outs in the eighth Jedd Gyorko singled and was easily thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double. NOTES: The Diamondbacks said day-of-game ticket sales totalled 5,563, the largest at Chase since August 2008. ... BOSTON -- "The Star-Spangled Banner" played over Boylston Street in honour of an American winner of the Boston Marathon. One year after a bombing there killed three people and left more than 260 injured, Meb Keflezighi added Boston to a resume that includes the New York City Marathon title in 2009 and a silver medal in the 2004 Olympics. Running just two weeks before his 39th birthday, he had the names of the 2013 bombing victims on his bib. "At the end, I just kept thinking, Boston Strong. Boston Strong," he said. "I was thinking Give everything you have. If you get beat, thats it." Keflezighi completed the 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to the finish on Boylston Street in Bostons Back Bay on Monday in a personal-best 2 hours, 8 minutes, 37 seconds. He held off Kenyas Wilson Chebet, who finished 11 seconds behind. Edmontons Tom McGrath was the top Canadian, finishing 101st in 2:30:24. Keflezighi went out early and built a big lead. But he was looking over his shoulder several times as Chebet closed the gap over the final two miles. After realizing he wouldnt be caught, Keflezighi raised his sunglasses, began pumping his right fist and made the sign of the cross. He broke into tears after crossing the finish line, then draped himself in the American flag. No U.S. runner had won the race since Lisa Larsen-Weidenbach took the womens title in 1985. The last American man to win was Greg Meyer in 1983. Meyer and Keflezighi embraced after the race. "Im blessed to be an American and God bless America and God bless Boston for this special day," Keflezighi said. Rita Jeptoo of Kenya successfully defended the womens title she said she could not enjoy a year ago. Jeptoo finished in a course-record 2 hours, 18 minutes, 57 seconds. She is a three-time Boston Marathon champion, having also won in 2006. "I came here to support the people in Boston and show them that we are here together," she said. "I decided to support them and show them we are here together." Jeptoo broke away from a group of five runners at the 23-mile mark. Buzunesh Deba of Ethiopia finished second in 2:19:59. Countrywoman Mare Dibaba was third at 2:19:52. All three women came in under the previous course record. Lanni Marchant of London, Ont., was the top Canadian in 14th. American Shalane Flanagan, who went to high school in nearby Marblehead, finished seventh after leading for more than half the race. She gambled by setting the early pace, but fell back on the Newton Hills about 21 miles into the race. "It does mean a lot to be that my city was proud of me," she said. "Im proud of how I ran. I dont wish I was it was easier. I wish I was better." After breaking a 27-year American drought at the New York marathon, Keflezighi contemplated retiring after the 2012 NYC Marathon. But that race was cancelled because of Superstorm Sandy, and he pulled out of the Boston Marathon last April because of injury. He watched the race from the stands at the finish line, but said he left about five minutes before the bombs went off. He was the first American to medal in an Olympic marathon since Frank Shorter won gold in 1972 and silver in 1976. His 2009 New York victory broke a 27-year American drought there. Another American, Tatyana McFadden, celebrated her 25th birthday Monday by winning the womens wheelchair race for the second straight year. She was timed in in 1 hour, 35 minutes, 6 seconds. McFadden was born in Russia and lived in an orphanage as a child before starring at the University of Illinois. She also won the 2013 NYC Marathon womens wheelchair race after taking the titles in Boston, London and Chicago last year. Ernst van Dyk of South Africa won the mens wheelchair division for a record 10th time. The 41-year-old crossed in 1 hour, 20 minutes, 36 seconds. Van Dyk holds the record for most all-categories Boston Marathon wins. This was his first win at this race since 2010. Last years mens champion, Lelisa Desisa, did not finish this years race, and had to be picked up by a van about 21 miles into the event. Marathon officials said 35,755 runners registered for the race, with 32,408 unofficial starters. The field included just less than 5,000 runners who were not able to finish last year and accepted invitations to return this year. Colorado Avalanche Jerseys China . Tensions rose in the first period when Penguins defenceman Brooks Orpik hit Bruins forward Loui Eriksson with what appeared to be a clean hit.TORONTO - Trevor Smith scored twice and added an assist as the Toronto Marlies downed the visiting Lake Erie Monsters 5-1 on Sunday in American Hockey League play. The 28-year-old, who was recently named Torontos new captain, has had a strong start to the season as hes produced three goals, two of which are game winners, and five points in his first two outings. "So far so good," said Smith of the pair Marlies victories. "These are the good times, you got to really embrace them. Theres going to be some learning times coming this way so weve just got to embrace the wins." Knowing this seasons squad would be young and raw -- the Marlies dressed 13 players Sunday 23 or younger -- head coach Steve Spott challenged the veteran Smith to be the teams go-to guy and hes been impressed with what hes seen so far. "He knows what to say, when to say it and on the ice you can see how dominant he is," said Spott. "Hes got to be a point a game guy for us, thats the pressure. He knows that, hes accepted that and he likes that challenge." Defenceman T.J. Brennan had a goal and an assist for the Marlies (2-0-0) while Greg McKegg and Tyler Biggs scored the others. Mark Olver scored the lone goal for the Monsters (1-2-0), who were playing their third game in three days. Drew MacIntyre made 20 saves for the win as Calvin Pickard stopped 28-of-31 shots in defeat. Biggs opened the scoring early in the second with a short-handed goal when he poked home the rebound off Smiths breakaway. Biggs then set the physical tone, throwing a big hit on Lake Erie defenceman Markus Lauridsen behind the Monsters net. Lake Erie tied it 1-1 on the power play as Olver got around Marlies defenceman Petter Granberg and, despite losinng control of the puck, managed to get it between the legs of MacIntyre.dddddddddddd Smith gave the Marlies a 2-1 lead on the power play at 17:59 of the second as a floater fooled Pickard glove side. Smith made it 3-1 when he finished off a feed from Spencer Abbott early in the third. Abbott, who was a minus-2 in just over five minutes of ice time in the Maple Leafs 5-4 shootout win over the Ottawa Senators Saturday night, was reassigned to the Marlies along with Jamie Devane Sunday morning. "They gave us two different elements," said Spott of the returnees. "Spencer gives us some skill and he plays a skilled high-tempo type game. Jamie obviously gives us some physicality and grit." Brennan and McKegg scored empty-net goals late in the third to put the game out of reach. Spott admitted his team was able to take advantage of a tired Monsters team who split back-to-back games in Abbotsford on Friday and Saturday before travelling to Toronto. "We caught a break, I think, with the schedule," Spott said. "We tried to use that to our advantage today. We were able to wear them down." Toronto went 1-for-8 on the power play while Lake Erie scored once on five chances with the man advantage. An area of concern for the Marlies as they now have a week of practice is their 5-on-3 play. The club has had numerous opportunities to score while up two men in two games to start the year, but havent been able to do it. "We will work a lot on our 5-on-3 this week," said Spott. "Weve got to give their goalie some credit, but ultimately, we have to punish teams when they take those penalties."
